3800 series II engine swap
Thursday, March 04, 2010 2:19 PM
I am just wondering if it is really truly possible to fit a gm 3800series II into my 98 cavalier 3rd gen.
I don't want to buy the crate engine for 2000$ and it not fit. Please let me know

Im pretty sure you can prob put anything in your cav as long as you are willing to take the time and make it fit/work. The 3800 is not a direct bolt in by any means so if that was what you are asking no it won't. If you are wondering if there is enough space for it, then yes there is here is a link to some info, do me a favour next time though try to search a little bit before you start a tread, because this was the first thing to pop up on my search.

Correct on the sarcasm.

I would love to be helpful on this topic, but there is so much information on this swap on this site, there really isn't much left to say as to if it fits and how to get it to fit and what is needed... it just gets bothersom.

I apologize for the sarcasm and perhaps one day I will be more help, but until then, have fun and good luck with the swap if you intend to do so, Joseph Doucet.

Just for some added proof...

rich is a 99 cavalier, not a 98 hahahaha

but what isaak said we get this all the time if you at the poin tof asking will it fit you are not at the point of buying a crate motor. and 2000 is rediculous i just bought a complete motor for 350 with 138 000km and i htink the crate motor doesn't come wiht stuff like a water pump, supercharger and so on i think thats all extra but check into that.

i reseached this for a couple years before doin it. i'm in the process of installin the new motor this weekend i had a gasket failure somewhere and sent coolant into my oil. entire top end was rebuilt 5000km ago i have to tear the motor down and find out where the failure was not to happy but this could have happened even on a brand new engine
