Some call this the 'Big3'.
It's basically you taking 4 gauge wire and grounding out parts of your car.

Generally you'd take one wire from the negative post to your fender.
One wire from the negative post to the engine block.
One wire from the negative post to the chassis.
And if you want, one wire from the negative post to the transmission.

I also add a wire from the opposite fender in the front to the engine block to make sure that everything is grounded completely and is pretty much as the way alot of manufacturers do it but with much smaller wiring.
Use 4 gauge wire when you do this and crimp the ends.
Scrape paint away from body parts to bare metal and then use some kind of liquid tape or ScotchKote to weather seal the ground so you won't ever have to worry about it.

This help to keep the electrical system working at it's best with better grounding and on older cars, actually helps in regaining performance from the loss of good ground contacts from rust or corrosion of connections over the years.

Good luck with it.

I put a ground kit on my Mazda, and i must say it really helped smooth the motor out.
So i decided to put one on the cav some time ago since the Mazda responded to it nicely, but i didn't notice any change on the cav.
So I'd try it out and see.

how much do they cost and how hard is it to install?

it won't do anything on a j unless your factory ground is poor/are pulling massive amps. look elsewhere for power.

Agreed.
But in most instances, the factory grounds are a measly 10 gauge wiring so upgrading the cables would be an appropriate mod to the electrical system in my opinion.

And the cost is dependent on what size wire you're going to use etc.
You can buy the grounding kits online but it's best to make up your own if you've got the tools to crimp on the connectors.
Check out Ebay or other online companies for the 'big three' wiring kits.

Remember, this doesn't improve on actual power to the car but does help in the performance of the electrical system since you are effectively increasing the ground wire sizes which in turn will help out the flow of electricity in the car.

Good luck.

Actually, bone stock, I noticed a voltage increase with upgrading grounds to 4 gauge.

Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
