prolly a stupid question but here goes.

ok so im new to J bodies and ive been trying to read up on the LD9 since thats what I have. So here's my problem. Paid 300$ for it with a blown headgasket and knew I was taking a chance on the bearings in the lower end but I fixed it anyways. Long story short bearing failure 2000 miles later and now shes torn apart in my garage again. It was fairly obvious by the condition of the bearings that this thing is starving for oil and ive seen people talk about switching to the 2.3 oil pump. Is it as simple as swapping the pumps or what else is involved? Oh another question... this has the 086 head but how can I tell which cams are in it?

To do the oil pump swap you will need to have oil pasages drilled, oil pump gear pressed onto the crank, have the pan deepened about and inch or contact zyaaaa about the oil pump pickup adaptor, and plug up some holes in the block. As for the cams you can measure the lift to figure out which they are. If the intake has the hex for the power steering and the half moon thing for the cam sensor chances are they are stock cams or secret cams.

sounds like for now im gonna leave the oil pump alone. does anyone make a high volume pump for the 2.4? is there a way to tell the difference between the stock and secret cams just by looking at them? any markings or stampings?

the 95 intake and the stock cams are pretty much identical, only a lift measurement has been the way ive told the two apart.

the exhaust cam on the other hand is fairly easy, just compare the lobes. the 2.3 lobes will be a bit wider.

there is no other oil system upgrade besides the 2.3 swap, which is recommended for all performance LD9 builds...

now if you have the 086 head, chances are you have 2.3 cam towers and cams, or your intake cam has been modified to accept the bigger lifters, or your head has been modified with smaller springs...

thanks for the info. is there a good site to cross reference casting #'s for these engines?
