I recently swapped a 2.3 h.o. out of a 91 (i think) beretta gtz into my 97 z24. It was running pretty good I drove it more than once and it seemed to run just like it did in the beretta on the cavaliers computer. A couple nights ago we finished welding the roll cage and seat into it. (dirt car). We had the battery unhooked and I drove it right after we finished. A day or two later I tried to start it and it just cranked... Unhooked the battery for a day and it started and ran normal again, but I shut it off and tried to start it again and it just cranked.... Has spark and is pumping fuel to the rail, I unhooked the rail and turned the key and it shot gas out. It just stops injecting it after you run it once. Could welding it have messed up the computer???? I picked one up tday and it ran for maybe a second and died, I don't know how the computers work with these but the number and plug ins on it were the same but someone wrote 2200 on it with marker so idk if a 2200 computer is the same as a 2.4 but you have to program them or what???? If I unplug the battery or original computer in it for a long time it will run fine until you shut it off. Then it doesn't inject fuel the next time.... Want to race this weekend any help appreciated!!!!!!

sounds like a passlock issue to me.

turn the key to the 'on' position and leave it there for like ten, fifteen minutes. after that time has passed turn the key off, then try to start it.

Tried that..... still doesn't start unless I unplug the comp for a while, then won't start again once I turn it off. Could it be the crank pos. sensor or something like that?

How long are you cranking it? I know that my car does not like to restart if the CPS is not connected. Just takes a little extra cranking though.

You could crank it for a year and it won't start. With the original computer it will start and run fine once after the computer has been unplugged for a while. With the other computer it fires up then dies immediately

if it starts and dies immediatly its antitheft. or theft lock..whichever, delt with it many times.
however i dont like the fact your using a 2200 on a quad engine...dont see how it runs at all. put the "other" pcm back on and fix the theft lock on it. thats my advice

When I use the quad computer it doesn't die, it will run forever until I shut it off then it won't start again unless I unplug it for a long time. The other computer I got from a salvage place and they said it would be for a 2.4 and I got home and it says 2200 on it... So i tried it for the hell of it and with that one it started then died right away.... If its the antitheft how does it prevent it from running? Does it not have spark or not inject fuel? Because it has spark and fuel pressure to the rail its just not injecting after the first time you run it...
