Do i need a tune?????
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 4:45 PM
OOOKKK, so i have a 2004 cavalier with CAI, tsudo header ,magnaflow high flow cat and magnaflow muffler. I was told i would need a tune after i got these installed ( I dont know if this is true or not.) After i installed it i took it out for a spin and during high rpm full throttle ( Around 4500-6000rpm) it breaks up really bad bogs down and my dash shuts off, and even some times i have to turn the car back on because it shuts the car completely off. Now it does kick it self back on sometimes after it bogs down. The car drives normal just cruising. So basically what im asking is if this is because i need a tune for the parts i have, or if its something else. Anyone with info please help me. Thanks Guys

I would venture to say it is somthing else. Maybe somthing was damaged during install. A tune always helps to make more power and utilize mods. But for those mods, bolt ons, you dont really need a tune.

this is what i was going to say as soon as i read the title too. lol

but.... from the sound of it it is not something related to the tune because all of the mods you have are pretty basic ones.

get a compression check done, check for fuel, check for spark, go somewhere that will read your codes.

Since you installed a header I would go with checking to see if the o2 was dinged up or a wire messed up. That is the only sensor directly touched with your mods.

If I remember correctly during their testing program GM made 164 hp on their engine dyno with a well tuned 2.2 eco. It had open TB (no intake) and open exhaust after the stock manifold and downpipe.

Check your electrical connections... Sounds like whatever "Hammer-wrench" you got tot install those parts didn't bother to check to be sure they were okay afterwards.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Sorry guy's i have been working alot lately, and trying to figure out whats goin on with this car. I ran it the other day again after i checked my plugs. As i was running it the gauges on my dash started to dim and as soon as i hit a bump the car turned off.... I will check the fuel filter, would that really turn the car off and make it break up? i will also check the o2 sensors they are both brand new but i did solder them so i will seee if i got a good connection.

If it turned off when you hit a bump I would start looking the car over for a loose connection on somthing somewhere.
