ok no offense the topic but my steering wheel shakes at 50 to 60 mphs ill explain, ok started off when i pressed on the break then released then ill hear a pop sound when released. Then it progressed, lets say am parked and deiced to turn the steering wheel a full left. When near a full rotation ill hear another pop also for the right turn, but it seems the sound is coming from the left side of the wheel, But hey sound reverberate threw steel so some times it sounds like its on the right. ok moving on, ok now i have a indefinable shake at 50 to 60 mph and i think it could be the cv boot? or axle? again you guys are thee experts and am yet the apprentice (if that ) so let me know....plz cause this @!#$ is making me kinda scared to drive at a good speed o and fyi and speeds over 65 it kinda goes away and 80 well it stops so thxs guy your number 1......am kinda drunk to
The vibrations are most likely caused by one of two things. One being your tires need balancing or you have a bent rim. Two your struts are possibly worn out causing wheel hop as you are driving down the road (my mercedes did that in the rear before i replaced the shocks). As far as the popping it could be a worn strut mount causing the popping noises. The big trucks I work on will get a similar popping sound due to worn out spring bushings.
yeh if the shake is that bad its proboly a bent rim or a tire that has broken cords, lol id get that @!#$ checked out. For the popping noise if its not the strut mount, its proboly either a bad ball joint or some other loose front end component maybe a worn swap bar bushing. Just jack it up and shake it down, see whats loose and get your tires check out, prob fix it.

while you're at it, resurface your rotors too, since you did say it started on braking...
could have a separated tire...
180hp in 1989 or 145hp in 2002, you decide. >
Broken hub. Put it up in the air and shake your wheel. If it wobels then it's a broke hub.
I had a similar issue. Driving on the regular surface streets there was no vibration but once I got on the freeway it shook pretty good. Checked wheel bearings, had tires rebalanced, replaced transmission mounts as i already had the ttr upper and lower motor mount. Still no luck. Brake were new so I knew it wasnt that.
Last thought was control arm bushings. Bought the prothane mounts, put them in another set of arms and went to put them in. While taking the arms off I found one of the axles was shot. It had probably close to 3/4" play in the shaft between the knuckles.
After replacing the arms and leaving the axle, the vibration was still there. Replaced the axle and it went away.
I know it was kinda lengthy but it gives you a list of things to check for.
"Oil Leak ? What oil Leak ? Oh, Thats Just The Sweat From All The HorsePower!!"
hey guy sorry for late post but the prob is solved! something stupid simple...ill explain. Went to wifes job, parked the car, had wheels turned to the left. Left the car came back took a good look at my tire and the @!#$ had a freaking tumor *bingo*. went and got the left tire replaced and the smoothness began once again!!>>> thanks guy<<<<.....but the pop sound i thing well pretty sure its the cv axels..ghey
