I currently own a 1999 poniac sunfire with a 2200 sfi 5 speed manual. I have hand built the entire body out of fiberglass and done some suspension work and done weight reduction. I want to buy either a DOHC or an ecotec and put it on an engine stand and just build it while I leave the 2200 in my car just to drive in the meantime. My question is, which engine is easier to swap back in? I think from the research I've done the dohc only needs the PCM and wiring... Everything else is pretty much the same? Where as the ecotec is alot more work. Please help!

you pretty much answered your own question
of the two engines ur thinking of the 2.4 dohc will be the easier but u will also need trans, flywheel and clutch. its a little more work but have u considered a v6? it will bolt right in with the correct parts to ur tranny, but u do need to wire it. its not hard just time and patiance.
Which v6? This idea excites me lol. Definately would like to put a 6 in especially if it's not alot of work (compared to some engines)

The 3100 which is the lesser of the 2 or the 3400 out of a impala, monte carlo, or grand am the 5spd ohv tranny bolts right to it though you would need a better clutch and a megasquirt II pcm, ShoOff could probably give you the tune he used for his v6 5spd cavy

What year v6 bolts up to my tranny? How much hp can my tranny handle stock?
