I've heard good things about patriot heads, though I have no direct experience with them. I can vouch for eagle though, the forged esp rods are top quality, and a popular choice.

the cams in the patriot head are stock.. don't buy them.

for the money, talk to these guys.

www.m2race.com
(not really sure why the tag isn't working)

their head has better flow numbers than patriot.
its more expensive than the patriot head, but you get what you pay for..

the patriot barely outflows stock, this is especially true on the exhaust side (where the eco has the most trouble).

the m2race head has much better flow numbers, which means more power.. this is especially true if you're going to use bigger cams, header + exhaust, and tune the thing.

and yes, I've had a patriot stage 2 head before. I wish the M2Race head was around because I would have bought that instead.

thanks. on their site they only have a listing for a 2.0.. would i need to send them my head and have a custom job done? also what would be a good choice for a nice loping cam?

I forgot to mention that...

I spoke to them on the phone (this was sometime last year) and they DO port L61 heads as well...

so far as cores, I'm not sure how that works. You may have to ship them a head for them to port, or they may be able to tack on a core charge.

the biggest cams available off the shelf for the ecotec are comp cams "high rpm street/strip" aka stage3 (although I don't think they're actually ever referred to as stage 3 in any kind of literature).

with hydraulic lifters/ lash adjusters I think this is the largest you can go.

ask them about using the GM Racing valvetrain too.. stainless intake valves, inconel exhaust valves, all are +0.5mm (something about 0.5mm retaining valve integrity or port flow or something), and using the GM Racing 93# spring kit.

get in touch with karo over at www.allecotec.com for the valvetrain setup if m2race can't get them directly.

M2 race is what i went with i sent them the lsj head and gm racing oversize valves and springs.Took a couple of weeks but great work and will out perform any head on the market. Head work and assembly was 1300 plus valvetrain.

That's about where mine is at. Mine is a patriot stage 2 head with additional port and polish done. All said and done its a $2400 head with custom valve train and stage 3 cams. Also mine has holes drilled by the exhaust springs to spray oil on them under higher rpm
