Over Reving ? Why?
Saturday, July 31, 2010 3:05 PM
I have a 96 Cav with the 2.4 in it. The starter went out on it last week. I put a new one on ( the hard way, from the top side.) Which meant I had to unplug a few wires to get it out of the hole. I am 100% sure everything is plugged back in correctly. Now when I crank it up the car is reving 2500 and climbing. Also the speedo is showing its going 30 mph even thoe its still in park. What the heck is going on. I really need some help here this one has got me stumped. I am wondering if the crank sensor which I had to unplug (but was repluged in) may have a problem.

My guess is a vacum leak.

Could be a loose ground somewhere for the spedo; bad grounds make really strange problems sometimes.

I will bet it is the ground that goes to the tranny/engine follow the ground from the battery to the battery holder to the engine/trans housing. Make sure its on there good. I experienced the same problem after swapping my trans
