lsj coil packs

just a general question.

would the coil packs from an lsj work on a l61 and would there be any advantage of using them if they did?

There individual coil on plug I believe. If so they won't work.

LSJ is coil on plug.

I guess you could run it wasted-spark but that defeats the purpose of having COP.

you could do it using a 4 channel MSD ignition box..
But to use OEM equipment, I'm not really sure.

are you going to see any miracle difference between the two? not really.

this is true, but didnt msd come out with some wasted spark coils a few years back? if you had the lsj ignition wiring and a msd box im sure you could make it work. although like pj said in all likeliness it wouldnt provide a significant difference

yea, but the OP's question was about running LSJ ignition coils. the L61 has a sort-of coil on plug setup, but its not really...

coil on plug is one coil per plug, no wire, directly mounted on the spark plug. the L61 sorta has that.. but it only uses 2 coils, not 4. So its... 'wasted spark coil on 2 plugs'

you can use the MSD ignition coils pretty easily, they even sell spark plug wires for use on an ecotec that you can use with the coils (normally the wires are used with the ecotec distributor).

the LSJ tho uses true blue coil on plug.. one coil per plug. You could probably connect two of the coils to a single trigger from our PCM, and connect the other two to the other trigger, but that defeats the purpose of having coil on plug.

one coil per plug gives that coil the maximum amount of recharge time possible with a given number of cylinders. with wasted spark, the coils always flip flop... so there's only half the amount of time for it to recharge before it has to fire again.

on that same note... the 1000+hp ecotecs used a single coil routed through the MSD distributor and some of them would spin up to 12,000rpm.
