2.2 valve springs
Tuesday, August 03, 2010 9:23 AM
I've done a bunch of searches on this and found a ton of stuff about the 2200 and really I'm not sure if they are the same or not. I have the 2.2 ohv and am wondering how much lift and duration the stock valve springs can take without binding or letting the valves float. I've seen everything from .460 to .575 at the valve so I'm wondering what's real.

One is 96 and one is 92. The one I was talking to you about before is 97 we are doing three at once lol.

I want to say I remeber reading .470 in the pre 97 engines repeatedly since I read most of the 2.2/2200 threads. But I'm far from an OHV guru. I don't actually own one just have intentions of building one someday so I try and retain the info.

Yeah that seemed to be the number that I came across the most but there were so many different things. The 97 motor is the one I'm doing up for me. The other two are for a couple other guys that are kind of like a team. Just don't want to tell them the wrong stuff. As far as building one.... I've had a blast with and the guys here as well as searching has helped a ton just couldn't find a "real" answer to this question.

97- springs allow LOTS of lift. They're just really soft

Hmm... thought I read that one. Must have missed the post that laid it out in plain english lol thanks.

I see the springs allow .510 and the clearance to the seals allows .520. At what point do they start floating simply because of ramp rate and duration?
