it makes me mad, had it all apart the (top end) had bad chain which the old owner said so change it with all new gaskets, chain, and the works. noticed the exhaust valves and only exhaust valves hit the pistons. moved the crank and pistons didn't move what so ever. no slack, all came up and down like everything was fine. did notice that some lifers were soft and some really stiff WTF
for the heck of it i did a comp test and have 220psi in 1,2,4cylinders and 200 in the third cylinder but a bad rod can still have comp in that cylinder right? also when i was doing the test it makes no noise
buy a mechanics stethascope, they are cheap. You'll be able to determine if the noise is coming from the top end or bottom.
just drained the oil and it was perfectly clean just brown no metal what so ever
ok can be clean and still have a spun bearingwont be the lifters in the 2.4 as there lifter aren't lifters the more shims then anything only way it can be a lift is if the oil wasn't getting to the top end
JBO since July 30, 2001
