Okee so,
I have a 1997 2.4L Twin cam motor and no matter what i do, this code seems to be persistant: P0401 - EGR Flow Insuffcient. Also, the excessive tank pressure has shown its ugly face once again. Heres a list of all that has been done.
-EGR lines/valve/conection to head & intake cleaned
-3 different EGR valves all tested with a 9v battery and all when opened stalled the motor
-New Purge Valve (on top of the Ac compressor)
-New Gas Cap
Im running out of ideas, the only thing left is the ECM...either that, or someone with some sort of tuner come here and get rid of the damn EGR from my computer. Another reason to believe that the ECM could be damaged is, the car had no charcoal canister when i bought it and i had to install that along with the canister vent valve. Also, there is a crack on the ECM like it was hit and maybe water got in? Another thing is when i was testing the EGR valves and the engine stalled when it was open, during idle the motor will shut off, so i have reason to believe that the ECM is actually opening the EGR when it shouldn't be....any input guys?
Try replacing the ECM if it's going to be an issue.
The engine should run wthout the EGR and all it's going to do is throw a code saying that it's not seeing the EGR in the system but the car should run.
ECM should be checked and go from there.
Good luck with it and hope you find out the problem.
