ok i have a 97 cavalier 2.4 that i just bought .The car sat for about 8 months before i bought it .If the car sits for more than a day when i go to start it up the valves peck for about 10 seconds.Does anyone know what this could be.Is it possable it`s from sitting so long?
peck like chickens? or tick like fuel injectors? be more specific please
how exactly does a motor "peck" at you? can u record the noise and post it?
don`t have anything handy to record it with.Peck means the vlaves are noisey not sure why you having trouble understand it
a valve tick..ok...just never heard anyone use "peck" before. thought maybe it was a certain sound.
does the car have the proper amount of oil? sounds like they are starting up dry then getting lubed.
yea i guess im old school on motor noise. It has the right amout of oil and they stay guiet after that
i dont think you have anything to worry about.
Timing chain tensioner could be going bad, and bleeding down when it sits over night. You start it back up in the morning and fill the tensioner with oil and the noise stops.
