My uncle just gave me my first car because he moved and gave my parents the deed to the car so it could be mine and I love the car, it is entirely stock and my uncle took great care of it. I have very few things that I would like to change or upgrade and the 115 horsepower is one of them. It doesn't feel like it has no power but a higher number would be nice, I love to work on my car and was wondering if there is a particular engine that is best for transplants or even if there are any upgrades I can do that would increase horsepower on my '99 Sunfire. I heard that the Bonneville 3800 tends to work well for it and from what I have seen it has some decent power. I am looking for an engine that comes off of another car because it is much cheaper if it would come off of a car. thank you for the responses.
the 3800 would require a bit of modification. the 3400 or 3100 quite a bit less.
otherwise for a basically "direct" swap, the 2.4 twin cam from a pre 00' j-body would be your best bet.
do some reading up and research in the third gen forum, there's quite a bit of info there on engine swaps.
