Pacesetter 2.4 Header Question
Friday, October 01, 2010 2:41 PM
I remember when I was browsing the 2.2 section on S10Fourm I think I read a few people had issues with burning a hole in Pacesetter header..
I'm kinda considering getting one for my '00 Z24, has anybody had any issues with the 2.4 header they offer?
I'm kinda thinking of doing a 3" exhaust all the way back sans cat as I don't have emissions here. The Pacesetter collector is 3" so thats why I'm considering it. And its not terribly expensive.

i had fantastic luck with mine. never had any leaking issues, the coating held up pretty good and it sounded ok. the collector is a 3" ball and socket, but the down pipe is 2 1/4" after that. if you wanted it to be 3" you'd have to make your own downpipe.

Thats what it was...I couldn't remember for sure but that sounds right...cause I had a 2.5" downpipe made instead of the 2 1/4"

Actually the ball and socket is 2.5 o.d. exactly. The flange is 3 inches with the ball being withing the housing of the flange of the header.

I had to custom fabricate my exhaust setup which involved taking measurements of the ball and socket and determining which piping would fit my custom downpipe.
2.5 inces o.d. is the size and worked perfectly for a smooth run from the collector of the header to my tail pipe tip.

I've also had my header on the car now for 10.5 years now and it still looks good with the ceramic coat having little or no rust on it and I've never had a single issue with it on the car.
Great header for the money.

I agree with you there Aaron!
I bought alot of things from eBay 'n such. Fedex or UPS screws you royally. I bought a Edelbrock cylinder head for my go kart and the shipping and brokerage ended up being more than the head costed me.

Did you guys have any issues with the ball and socket leaking?

Never had an issue.
Even with the re-engineering of the exhaust system it's as tight as a frogs a$$ in water.
As long as you don't over tighten the spring bolts you're good as that can warp the socket.
10+ years on the car and still perfect.

^^ i agree. don't overtighten the spring bolts and you're good. never had any leaking issues in the 2 years i ran that header on a DD. i took the downpipe off more times than i'd like to remember as well. never any leaks from the ball and socket.

My ball joint started leaking after about 2 years, shop told me to remove the springs, put in a piece of flex pipe at the end of the down pipe and tighten the bolts down, not power tool tight. The ball joint bolts did back out enough to make it leak after 5-6 months, makes car sounds like old truck. I actually just re-tightened them last weekend, next time I will see about getting some loc tight on them but I didn't think about it till after I was done last weekend. I still like the header, the coating is holding up well, sounds good, and it perfect fit for current mods.
