Starting issue...
Tuesday, October 05, 2010 4:23 PM
I didn't know where to post this exactly, since it's a performance issue, I figured this would be a good place to start
I put in my LE5 manifold about 1 month ago, LOVE it
Put LSJ injectors in, Got it tuned and fell back in love with my Cavalier again (yay)
However... I think one of those things is causing an issue with my engine starting when it's cold (and it's getting colder which is why i'm posting)
I started up this morning at about 11 degrees (canadian temp  ) and when it started, i had to help the throttle because my throttle would go down below 500, nearly stall, and shoot up to about 1500, and bounce like that till my engine got a bit of vacuum going (approx 20 secs)
Then the idle would settle high, until the engine was up to temp, and idled proper
It's done this before, but noticing it more, and worse when it's cold...
Just to note as well, ever since everything, my idle has been sitting about 1050, all the time... is that normal with the LE5?
Suggestions?

Sounds like an issue with the iac, was the manifold and gasket properly modified? And is your tune not wacked out?

well I've noticed a small starting issue before the tune and injectors (only ran like that for a few days) so I doubt it's because of the tune (but idk for sure)
my iac is the piece into my intake piping pre-throttle body, right?
I made 2 cork gaskets, (pre and post adapter plate), and the adapter plate came with the LE5 manifold, which I did drill the hole in (probably ~.25" I can measure if need be)
far as I can tell, it's working properly, no leaks, and my idle holds steady after she's warmed up (besides being high)
There's probably a LOT more vairables that i'm not even thinking of, but any suggestions on what to try let me know bc I'm learning :p

IAC Idle Air Control valve, not to be confused with the IAT Intake Air Temperature sensor. It is on the throttle body.
