What's this part?

On the LD9, the heater hose connects to the water pump's outlet pipe with a plastic quick connect it looks like. Is this a specific type or a generic one I can get at a local parts store? Mine cracked down the mold line...

Number 3 I guess it would be.

I think I have seen them in the "help" section before.

You don't need it. Take it off stuff the hose on the pipe and clamp it. I've done this to many 2.4 cars with no issue.

Excellent, that's what I figured I'd do. Thanks.

How about item #1 in the picture? From breaking mine the other day, it seems like a simple bypass between the 2 heater hoses. Anyone know if it is entirely necessary?

Right now I have my heater core bypassed. Just used a piece of 3/4" hose from the water pump to the water outlet on the side of the head.

I wouldnt mind hooking up the heater core again, as I just spent 2 hours pulling the dash to replace it a couple months ago. I just want to make sure that I can use regular $5 3/4" hose and not have to buy the $90 pre formed hose.

Ya you can bypass it. The center is actually a push button that allows you to drain the coolant from just the heater core so you can replace it without having to drain the coolant from the entire engine... That's how it was explained to me by a GM tech anyhow.

I replaced my old hose and plastic quick-connect with a new hose (ended up being the perfect size to fit over the metal pipe) and clamped it down. Car's temps are super-cool just like they used to be back in the day.... I love it.. this thing's been leaking covertly for a long time..

About that heater hose H-piece, I removed mine a while ago. It was my understanding that it was made to allow coolant to bypass the heater core if it becomes clogged as well.
