Shaved head, now what?

I shaved my car`s cylinder head 20/1000 of an inch. I have stock Internals, freshly rebuilt engine a year ago. How much HP or Torque gain should I expect? My current mods are intake, headers, 2.5 exhaust.

Would it be ok if I run low boost? (6psi-10psi)

Get a thicker head gasket, and you should be fine. If I remember correctly GM says not to go over .020 because of the timing chain / timing. .010 of the head & .010 of the block is what is recommended.

you might gain half a point of compression but unless you cc the head we'll never know.

realisticaly, you're cam timing is going to be off just a nut hair now so any gain you'll see from the bump in compression no doubt will be negated by the timing difference anyway.

if your worried about it do like mike said, get a thicker head gasket. we have two options for them, cometic MLS's and the titan copper ones. you can get pretty much whatever thickness youd like from either manufacturer.

id say just leave it alone if its working for you though.

shaving the head and keeping stock head gasket will retard timing. might add a bit of tq. but then again go read the adjustible gears forum. that might give some info.
