I just got a few questions. I'm looking to turbo or supercharge my 2200 engine. My goal is to have a reliable engine, with some power i only want 6-8 psi so not much just a small set up for every day driving. The engine is well kept and been told it will hold that boost with out internal work. So i ask for advice, what do i need and what needs to be done? i know basic set up turbo/supercharger pipes cooler manifold etc. Any info is appreciated, thanks
From what I've read you need a fuel management system, a good tune, and a good turbo kit, not some ebay trash. the LN2 can handle up to about 10psi stock. Post and read all the stickies in the boost forum if you want to really learn about this.

Yeah....see, I feel like I'm pretty mechanically incline and I def know my way around a car when it comes to maintenance, but turbos are a whole other world. Knowing now, just the tip of the iceberg what I know about turbos, I know that they are complicated systems, and it's no wonder so many idiots blow their @!#$ up out there! lol You really have to be good to do it right....oh and count on putting down about $5-6k on a reliable system.

True, turbo cars are touchy things... It's been my experience that if you're gonna run one on the street day-to-day, SMPI w/MAF & DIS is the way to go. But since that's not really an option for alpha-N equipped cars, just not going "Crack-happy" with the boost level & running the highest commonly available octane is the safest bet. I've seen people make mistakes in respect to both of those things, and that's what usually what causes problems.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
honestly not worth it with the 2200SFI. max hp youll see is maybe 220hp with turbo. any high and youll bust the motor in half, internals wont handle boost like the 2.2 eco's.
I have the 2200 and have done some research on boosting this engine and for the price its not worth only 200 hp. you still cant beat anything special with just 200hp.

If you have the "basics" down, my advice is a tune. I spent yesterday getting mine tuned.
I only have 24lb injectors. I am running a t3/t4 turbo with a .63 ar turbine, I ran out of injector at 5psi. I have 34lb injectors to put in it, I'm more than confident the motor will hold together.
It's been proven that the stock bottom end will make 300 whp with a great tune.
For a reliable fun dd, 6-8 psi on a good size turbo will be a blast.

Sorry im not trying to discourage anyone with the 2200SFI, but to get the 2200 over 300whp your looking at a rebuild with after market and name brand internals which can get pricey. next year ill be swapping in a ecotec and next year after that a turbo kit and then a tune so im looking at 10g's right there. Probably cheaper to spend that rather then trying to get a 2200sfi up past 300hp.
My goal with the eco will be max 450whp. So wish me luck, ill need it lol.

I agree, but I have both parts and plans for a 4-450whp ln2. I wouldn't recommend staying stock for 300whp on any J motor.
For the OPs goals "fun reliable dd with some power" a lightly boosted ln2 is probably enough.
Again, I'm only on 5psi and it's running 100% (feels like it's a factory turbo), gets the same mpg off boost, and it makes enough power to move pretty good.
I also read that a turbo kit would run $5-6k. Honestly I have $1k in this turbo install currently (will be $1600 with my new turbo, I'm running a used one for now).
The 2200 is definitely worth it for low power applications (250whp and under) especially if the motor is already in the car. To swap the motor and boost it is not worth it for a "low boost dd". I'd venture to say that for up to 350whp on a turbo that the price for making that power with an OHV would be similar to that of a DOHC motor. I mean, you do the same things to both motors (internals, headwork, fuel upgrades etc). Once I have mine together and have run and dynod it I will be able to say that for sure, but I'm not here to debate anyone or pretend like I have anything to prove. I'm building it for me as a hobby really.

To the OP, this can a be a fun engine to boost. For the most part, the LN2(more specifically the 2200 /98+) responds very well to boost. There are a few key things to remember though.
1. Don't believe everything you hear, especially on this site. There is a lot of BS that is thrown around by people who have no clue what they are talking about.
2. You need to have realistic goals.
3. Don't try to use the cheapest components out there. Spend the money and do it right the first time. It will cost you less on the long run.
4. Make sure you get a real tune. Tunes are not cheap, especially when someone who knows their sh!t is doing it. The tuning can make or break even the most expensive setup.
5. Have fun with it!

Thanks for the input, this is a dd(or every other day) dont want to race or show off on the streets just want a little more power around 200 or so just when i take trips its fun on the highway. When im drivin around town i feel a little power their. i dont want to cheap out so im looking at a gcouple good kits but just not sure what else is needed when i purchase ie fuel rail injectors it will get a tune once done just a little heads up from people that have done this to a 2200, and QWK i like your rides good work and any info you have please let me know thank.
