z24 cavi bogging down going into 3rd?
Thursday, November 04, 2010 2:05 PM
for some reason when i shift into 3rd gear (well basically when i shift into any gear) it acts like it wants to bogg way down and it has a loppy idle from a stand still or when i push in the clutch? cant figure out why this is? any suggestions as to whats going on? would it be because i blocked off the egr valve cuz there wasnt one and i just put a plate there and bolted it on. hmmmm WHATS GOING ON!!! LOL im confused....

highly doubtful the EGR is causing that. what codes does it throw?

misfires? Low compression? Burning or mixing fluids?

good compression. no misfires, and not burning any fluids i know of. and its got the service engine soon light on and airbag(no airbags took all out when rebuilt car from ground up, dont ask why lol)
im taking it to a shop on monday to see if they can figure out what may be the cause of it cuz its got me puzzled

yeah I have the same problem, i have an auto 4 speed and it bogs down in 3rd gear bout between 40mph/50mph. No codes though, im thinking hydraulic issue.

i have this problem too, only when im driving normal(not speeding). its an auto of course, as it shifts into third at maybe 3k it drops off and boggs bad until it gets back above 3k. no engine light, i assume it runs rich at this piont and needs tuned. i should have me a wideband next month, so we'll see..

iat should be in your intake pipe. might be part of the issue. And a cooler iat will result in more fuel and less spark advance, both bad for power.

i read in the library that moving the IAT sensor to a cooler location will advance timing and increase fuel flow. Ill be trying that mod today.

Nevermind about the library, nothing there worth looking at, since flamers have a right to opinions, cant believe this hasnt turned into a troll fest with the experts. Still waiting....................................

here is the thing @!#$ tard... the people giving you advice have fast cars... performance oriented cars and know what they are doing.... im in the 12s with a home made turbo kit and will be in the 11s come spring time. i didnt get my car that fast by pulling IAT's from behind the headlight, i pull IAT's out of the charge pipe that goes into my LS1 throttle body to my aluminum race intake manifold. My IAT is a thread in one not the simple push in style like your stock one.

in short, shut the @!#$ up, sit in the corner. read before you post otherwise you are just asking for trouble. coming in here and telling long time educated members they are wrong and trolls will get you nowhere.

your getting nowhere fast... my car doesnt bog in 3rd, and my iats are pulled from the correct place. dont come on here and shun the advice of the people who have been doing this for years. im not a troller, im one of the people who put a daily driven cavalier into the mid 12s. come spring time, 11s. meanwhile you drive one of the heaviest models, with the slowest motor, and ALMOST the worst trans.

i hope it does well against all the vette's you race... maybe you should trade it for your dream civic si, and go over to honda tech, where im sure they would be incredibly nice to someone as ignorant as yourself...

grow the @!#$ up and quit being such a bitch... your gaining no ground and digging yourself a hole.

to be completely honest, I dont race with my cavalier nor would I race with a coupe model with a eco, or quad 4,, cavaliers are not race cars and not for the track. So waste your dope money on a cavalier built to save on gas, you have not impressed anyone here with your slow car. Only thing you have going is style. Deal with it. this is a race car

That is not a race car, as it will only drive in a straight line or in circles. No turn = no race.

i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick

my cavalier as it turns out runs rich and runs better with 91 octane. i beat a 78 monte carlo with a hopped up 305 engine. and pulled 2 cars on my buddies lt1 camaro and would have had him if i wouldn't have missed 3rd. once the video is posted ill put it in my build thread.
