I am new on this forum. I have a 2000 2.2l cavalier. I was just reading that the throttle bodies from a 2.3l will work on my 2.2l. Is this true? Does anyone know if I need to modify anything to make it work or is there anything else I might need? What cars have the 2.3l? Are there any other cars that have throttle bodies that will work on my 2.2l? I dont have a lot of extra money but I would like to upgrade my tb. Does anyone know what size the tb is on my 2.2l? And what makes the tb from the 2.3l better than the one on my car?
Tis true. The 2.3 TB is 56mm IIRC and your stock one is 52mm or 54mm I cant remember but either way it isnt a huge difference. Changing the TB pretty much a complementary mod to having the head ported since the 2200 head is a bottleneck. Youll notice a shift in the powerband a little towards the high end but not a significant overall power gain.
You might have to do a little work with the throttle cable depending on what 2.3 you get the TB from. Youll need a vacuum tee since the 2200 has 3 TB vacuum lines and the 2.3 TB only has 2 ports.
Any TB from a 2.4 will fit also or so Im told. So if you can find a ported one for cheap it will work.
LD9 tbs are 52 mm as well...
you should get one off of a 1995 Quad 4... you'll have a less chance that you will need to modify the TPS to make it work.

. So what year should I be looking for? I have been trying to figure out what cars have the 2.3l with really no luck. I read that the 2.3l was made between 88-94. And you said a 95 will work? is 95 the last year that has the 56mm tbs that will work for my 2.2l? What cars have the 2.3l quad-4s and does it matter if they are single or dohc?

Sorry for the multiple posts. I went to the junkyard today to get the throttle body. But how do I get the tb off of the aluminum intake plenum? The guy at the junkyard said the tb for the grand am/achieva/skylark 3.1l's are interchangeable with the 2.3l's. Does anyone know if this is true? I tried to call the local parts stores to research this but no one had a tb on file for either engine, just the tb gasket. Any ideas?

Just tell them you need the tb off of a 95 Z24.

95 or not..all quad4 throttle bodys plug in the same to the harness...so he doesnt HAVE to have a 95..any year quad4 will be enough the same....however i still dont see it going on a 22

Ok. So now I have the 2.3l 56mm throttle body. What gasket do I need? Do I get the tb gasket for my 2.2l cavalier or the tb gasket for the 1994 grand am 2.3l the I got this new throttle body from?
