2.3 swap
Wednesday, December 01, 2010 7:00 AM
I'm swapping out my 2.4 with a rod knock and I bought my friends 2.3 ho out of a 91 beretta gtz but I'm not sure if the swap will work or not, dose anyone know what I would need to do this swap I have tHe engine, harness, and the ecu I just don't know if the trans and motor mounts will line up I have a 02 cavalier z24 with a 5spd getrag in it. Will it work, if not how could I make it work.

for a 91 beretta i am not sure of on the mounts (every year beretta is different i swear) but you can just bolt the LD9 block bracket to the quad and use the LD9 upper mount. as for lower, it should still be the same dogbone style. again, just use the LD9 mount. the beretta dog bone isnt exactly the same. at least the one in my 95 isnt....

to get the charging system to work you will need to source a 95 quad 4 alternator. this will plug right into you're harness and work. the one on the HO will not.

trans bellhousing patterns are all the same from 87-02 quads/LD9's

the quad will run on the OBD2 harness in you're 2001 z24 but you will need to use you're injectors. they are a different impedance than the ho's. (low vs high)

and lastly, you will need to buy an adapter plug for the knock sensor hole on the rear of the block, your 2001 version uses a smaller thread. go to www.mscindustrialsupply.com and buy part # 215-065953. this is the exact adapter you need. it works, ive used it and it is bad ass.

as far as anything else i dont think there is. but i could be wrong, not many people have swapped an HO into a 99+ from what i can tell. its usually always 95-98's.

Don't forget to tune or you will lean out up top and could blow the engine!

the motor comes with the alternator, would i still have to swap, and your saying that i should just run it off my cavalier ecu because the motor comes with the ecu and the engine wiring harness, and what do you think i should tune with just a piggyback or ive herd of ostrich that they tune the stoker with witch would be better. im just putting this motor in because it only has 42000 miles on it and this summer im taking my 2.4 and my 2.3 and making the stoker but as of now i need a car.

Use all the cavalier sensors, injectors, and a 95 J-body alternator.

You will need a tune. Brad covered most of it.

If you just need it to run put the 2.4 cams in it...it'll be a dog but it'll run and you won't need to worry about a tune as much.

Also you'll need the cars ecu to be hooked up for emissions and so the guages work. You would be better off buying hptuners than piggybacking and buying the ostrich.

ur car is OBD2. the ostrich setup scott is using on the stroker is OBD1. completely different.

like the above said, use all of the j-body electrical stuff. none of the stuff that came with the motor. sensors are fine but some you will probably not be able to use. the oil LEVEL sensor being one of them. it is located in the bottom of the oil pan.

they? who is "they" ? haha
keep your stock pcm wiring, keep your injectors, use the 95 Z24 alternator, the altternator that comes with it wont plug into your harness and the one on your 2.4 wont bolt up to the 2.3.
also you will not be able to use your cam sensor or oil level sensor on the 2.3..this is not a big deal and it can be fixed using HPtuners if im not mistaken.
as for mounts use your 2.4 mounts and youll be fine, and it should bolt up to your transmission just fine................good luck and happy swaping

Will the 2.3 bolt up to the tranny? I'm looking into doing the same swap into my 99 Z24. Not to butt in but will the 2.3 bolt up to the isuzu tranny in my 99?

the 2.3 and 2.4 have the same bolt pattern for the tranny, so if your tranny is on a 2.4 right now it will fit on a 2.3 just the same
