So I rescued this 93 Cav from going to the junkyard. 200 bucks!! It's a 3.1 with a 5 speed. I got everything I need. I just need to know what model car do I buy an upgraded clutch for and will my 93 5 speed work with the 3400

Usually a spec 2 clutch is recommended, but the stock one will hold up. the 3400 is basically an upgraded new version of the 3.1, same block with minor changes. the gear box in your car will work fine. but a clutch for a 1993 cavalier.
Any other questions, just ask away.

www.v6z24.com/jbodyforum/ has everything you will ever need to know and want to know about the first and second gen Jbody.

The 3400 has a slightly dfifferent block due to the larger bore needed for the pistons. The 3100 block is virtually the same.

Your trans will work fine, and you will order an upgraded clutch for your current vehicle. (Pretty simple huh?)

You can go 1 of 2 ways about this. You can either A) Swap the entire 3400 over to your car, which will bolt up to the trans and require some mounting work. OR you can swap the heads and intakes off of a 3400 (00+ 3100 has the same intakes and heads as the 3400, BTW). Additionally you can get a new chip from over on 60degreev6.com for your computer.

Check out for some info. Also 60degreev6 is a great place for probably more info than you'll ever need to know.

Thanks. A top end swap is out of the question cause the engine seized up due to oil pump failure. I've seen that you could buy the motor mount from someone for the swap. This would be helpful since my welder died.
