Tach question

Alright guys just need to ask a simple question. Where do you wire up a tachometer to? I have the red wire to + battery terminal, black wire grounded, white wire to the dimmer switch but now where does the green one connect to? Never done this before so I want to do it right and not connect it then cause problems. Thanks!

Not sure about the 2.2 because I have a 3100 in my car, but they use similar coil setups..

on my car it was a white wire coming off the ignition control module. Now I've heard mentioned about some tach adapter crap.. not sure where this comes in because i wired my tach strait to the white wire and set it on 6 cyl mode and it worked fine.

I looked deeply and found what is a orange wire that runs to where the spark plugs connect behind the engine. I cant get anywhere close to reaching it so I might just have to remove the throttle body. Ill get to it tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

I cant remember what wire I have it hooked too. But it is one that comes off the coils/ignition module. The tach adapter is used because unless you have a tach that reads for the 2 cylinder option it will only read half of the actual rpm. Not sure why and dont have a scientific explanation. I believe it only reads 2 cylinders at a time though. You could search it and find it though

Only reads that way because its wasted spark ignition.

The 2.2 ICM doesn't have that particular tach output like the 6cyl does. So he's SOL on that one.

You need Tach Adaptor (Autometer 9117) Instructions are simple and come with it......and you're not supposed to put the positive on the battery terminal, you only want power to it when the key is turned on which i couldnt find through the dash so i used the positive from my radio as it only comes on when key is turned to accessories and stays on when car is running
