I have a '96 2.2OHV 5 speed Cavi Coupe with a bad case of rod knock. I would like to do a 2.4 engine swap using a '98 or '99 long block(assuming I pull the ECU, Harness and long block from the donor car). My goal is to have a street car with decent power not a track Monster. Here are some newbie questions I have. I swear I used the SEARCH function but I didn't find much and I didn't come up with much. BTW I would like to retain the Isuzu 5 Speed for now.
1. What cars can be used as engine donors other than Cavis that are compatible with the Isuzu 5 speed.?
2. Must the ECU be from a 5-speed manual transmission or can a ECU from an automatic work with no problems?
3. Do I need to swap out the throttle cables when doing this swap?
Any advice or links is greatly appreciated.
Anybody??????
What about fuel lines would I need to change out the old ones?
If you're keeping the same tranny, the only options are another 2.2 OHV, or a v-6 swap. A newer 2200 would be a slight upgrade if you swap wiring harness and pcm.

So the 2.4s aren't compatible with the Isuzu 5-spd tranny? If they aren't then that sucks for me. What kind of V-6 mates with the Isuzu? Sorry for all the questions I'm new to the j-body.
You just have to get the Isuzu trans with the 2.4. There's one that bolts to it, just your 2.2 trans does not.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
A 2200 sounds like the easiest swap. Thanks for all the info
