Shaving head???
Monday, April 18, 2011 4:34 AM
Hey guys... Got a 94 cavy 2.2 running circle track. I need to know how much can be shaved off these heads. Before I get flamed I did a quick search and I found everything about the ld9 and ecotec stuff but not my ln2. Engine swap is not an option. Also when I get the head shaved do I need to have that much shorter pushrods? Thanks in advance.

Also I am not running pump gas. I believe it's 108 or 111. And if I do this will I need to adjust the timing somehow?

I believe Bob Guptill has taken up to .100" off the head. You'll gain more compression faster by surfacing the block. IIRC, the deck clearance is .026". Zero deck the block, then shave the head for the most compression.

As for the pushrods, yes you will need to match the reduction of length to the amount removed, to maintain/get the proper preload/valve lash (hyd/mech) and valve train geometry.

Would timing be an issue?

Not in an ohv application. The chain doesn't connect to the head other than through push rods and camshaft so nothing is affected.
