Just wondering if a harness out of a 00-02 would work in a 97 2.4

Oh really. What's different between the 98-99. I bought my engine from a u-pick over a year ago and dono what exact year it is. Is there anyway to tell?

Casting number on cylinder head.

96-98 Head Casting number is 683-18.

99-02 Head casting number is 779.

Cool thanks for the info. Very helpful. What's different in the harness for the two engines? Sensor locations? Or what makes them not compatible.

O2 sensors, knock sensors, injecoters, EGR, and I'm sure I forgot some.

I was under the impression 99 had to use its own harness and you are unable to use the 2000+ harness. as different connectors and such, as I am having that problem now need to replace my 99 harness asap

00-02 harness is VERY close. The front 02 sensor is 1 wire in 99 and 2 wire in 00-02. Off the top of my head. I think that is the only difference with the engine harness. Ideally 99s would need 99s for no mods to the harness.

Small Starter 99-02
Large Starter 96-98
Alternator are 99-02
High Impedance Injectors 99-02
Low Impedance Injectors 96-98
1 Wire Front O2 sensor 96-99
2 Wire Front O2 sensor 00-02
Knock sensor 96-98
Knock Sensor are the same 99-02
99-02 No EGR
96-98 EGR

Headlight harness is 99 Only.

so your saying need to splice the 2000 harness in order to get the 02 to work either then that should work? lets not forget ECM modual different locations and style, also the fact, of being different styling ecu, as I believe the pins are different.

I have the pin-out someone on my home computer for a 99 and 00, I'll look to see if I can find them.

You can run a 00-02 tune on the 99 PCM and wiring, you do however lose some gauge functions.

This post will help. 99 to 00 ecu.

yes I want to keep my cluster as its my favorite styling, and I don't want to do another tune as noone in this stupid city does tuning and noone in the tuner scene up here has HP tuners. but I believe you should be able to rewire the 99 ecm to use the 2000 wiring with a little bit of splicing. a stock tune would suck for me lol, wouldn't run right. and I believe will be forced to remove my dash and redo the wiring if ran bcm. but if the wires are the same for the plug in engine compartment that connects the interior and engine harnesses together should be workable. thats where Im at currently and then I would just move my fuse box under the centre console as Im running with the 99 sunflower centre. then fuse the cigarette light/12v to the engine fuse box. as my battery already in the trunk

99 harness wont work it has a UART data line and a serial data line the 00+ have 2 serial datas and no UART

also the ABS connection isn't even close the wiring harness has too many differences to swap

hard to tell mike if that was sarcasm or not????

the fuel level & VSS in 99 goes to the cluster in 00 it goes to the PCM then through the serial data to the cluster

when you do say a 3400/3800 swap you have to piggy back or do autometer or do 00+ cluster swap because the 99 cluster doesn't read PCMs that don't have the UART data line when the swap is don't you have every idiot light on and loose water temp and tach you only have speed and fuel

i ran autometer for 2 years and this past fall wired my car for the 00+ cluster now i have stock gauges and a pod with my wideband and boost gauge.

99 is basicly the middle child of the family its left all alone the older bother (98) and the youger bother (00) don't wanna play with him because hes too different 95 is also the same as 99 way differnet then 94 and has minor differentces from 96+

thats what I thought, I ran through everything and I see that only 99 will work, but thats the dumbest thing I ever heard, one year all by itsself, and I cant find a harness anywhere

thanks mike internet is hard to tell sometimes i think thats why people take things the wrong way

a 99 harness is accually closer to a 98 then an 00 the only difference in hookup is D3 on the 98 is empty on the 99 that is for the evap canaster in the rear of the car

98 its in the front passenger wheel well behind the headlight.

then you have EGR and a few data related things
