TRYING to run a vacuum gauge.
Monday, May 09, 2011 1:47 PM
Look, flame all you want; but the question still stands.

Im running a 2200; and trying to run a vacuum gauge.
I can not, for the life of me, find an easily accessible vacuum line.

Can someone just please post a photo of which line i should tap into with a T fitting so i can put this damn thing to rest?

I was told to T-line into the HVAC vac line going to the TB

Is there any way to access this easily without unbolting a bunch of garbage?
there HAS to be an easy way to hook up a basic gauge...

Run it out into the engine bay and run it off a t off your intake mani.

No unbolting of anything

From where?
I cant find any lines that are easily accessible.
even tried running off of my valve cover to intake manifold, but got no reading.

you have to look down at the back of the throttle body.

with all the stock parts still attached (if they are) its not that easy to see back there.

follow the brake booster cable to the throttle body, there will be 2 smaller vac lines back there you can T off of. very simple.

You need a connection thats AFTER the throttle plate, otherwise you will get no reading.

Cool story bro.

The other three people before you obviously felt the need to be a dick as well. @.@

Hey now, I was trying to help. I wasn't trying to be a dick in any way. I can take a picture of my trottlebody where I did my connections if you want.

Curiosity though is begging me to ask why you are trying to install the gauge? I had one on my car waaaay before I installed my turbo, but it was a boost/ vac gauge. I'm not flaming I'm just curious.

There is also a vac line that runs into the cabin for Hvac controls, but I've never traced it inside to find out it's exact location. It would be 100x easier to tap that line inside the cab for a vac signal if you can find it. It connects to the back of the TB and you can then trace it to/through the firewall. Cut and install a T and you're good.

Fail on my part-
The previous post by me was supposed to be sarcasm for the whole "If you cant do it, then ur retarded' deal.
I appreciate what you've told me. I've gotta get out there and pop my hood, and find these sumbitches.

also, trying to run it, because that gauge alone will give me a decent amount of information about how my engine is running.
If you've got a photo; please post it up. I tried to find the interior line, to no avail;

Perhaps im looking right at the line, and not even realizing it.
I've been focusing on a line that's rather small, so that i can T into it without using a million different adapters.
The T that i've got, is 3/8-3/8, so naturally, that's the size of the line that i've been looking for. Perhaps THATS my problem.

3/8 is pretty big for a regular vacuum line. The only one you will find that big is the brake booster hose.

Im hoping you mis typed and meant 3/16? Even that is odd, most are like 1/8.

So it sounds like that brake booster line is my only real option. now i just have to figure out how to get my monster hands behind everything to access it.

Use the line thats directly below the brake booster

This is a shot from the passenger side of the engine bay.

You can see the T that I installed for my wastegate. Its crude for the time being but it works.

Does that help?

Using the brake booster line might be a bad idea, if it leaks you will start having braking problems.

Its much easier to see in my engine bay than a stock bay because I have a lot of things removed that normally block/cover that area.

I cant remember what a stock bay looks like haha

good luck
