I tried to do a quick search but didnt come up with any real answer to my question:
I know there is a piston difference between the 96-early 99 and the 99.5-02 LD9, what i am wondering is if there is any difference in the rod?
My bosses son spun a rod bearing in an 00 GA and he wants to do a quick cheap fix to get it back on the road. I have 3 good 97 LD9 rods that I could use 1 for his motor if they are the same.
I saw a post on quad4forums where a guy claimed the weighed differently but there was just 1 post.
Thanks in advance.

i've held both in my hands at the same time, they are cosmetically different. just looking at them side by side you can see an obvious difference. the 99+ ones are a tiny bit beefier. its not a huge difference but its noticable. whether they actually do have a different weight i dont know, but they are the same dimensions. when you buy new rods for a 96-98 from GM you will get the 99+ style rod so i would say it would probably work for a cheap fix. new rods are only around $75-80 shipped though so its not a huge dent in the wallet, just maybe some down time while you wait for them to get one in stock.
I would only be worried about the weight difference throwing off the engines harmonics.
