ok im sure this has ben asked before and i was looking at the secret cam swap sticky already but not sure if this information is the same for the w41 cams or only for the 2.3HO cams but i have the camshafts and was just wondering if i need lifters or springs or valves? any help would be great even if u can direct me to a link to find the info sorry if its a dumb question just wanna make sure i have the right information so i dont mess anything up thanks
if you wanna do things the right way then yes you should at least upgrade the 2.3 springs and lifters.
ok i figured as much but was more worried about having to change valves
Valves will be fine and the 2.3/2.4 springs and retainers are interchangeable. The lifters is where its gets pricey and the cost to bore the 2.4 towers.
will the w41 towers go on the ld9?

Yes, but if you do the intake side, you have to change over to the 2.3L belt-driven PS pump. It's cleaner to just use the 2.3L Exhaust tower and have the LD9 intake tower bored to match the quad4 lifters (35mm).
I have no signiture

I know from experience that the 2.3 power steering pump wont work with the 2.4 head. The EGR passage sticks out too much. So spend the money to get the 2.4 cam tower bored or get happy with manual steering(not so bad once you get used to it)
I haven't seen a 2.4 head in a long time. Is it the pulley on the pump that hits?

nope, its the bracket down below. the egr area sticks out too much.
if i go with manual steering i should just be able to remove the power steering pump and all the power steering stuff in the engine bay no?
yes, you can loop the lines by hooking them together, thats what I did. Or somewhere on here is a writeup that shows you how to make it a true manual rack, but that involves taking the rack out of the car.
I had the 086 head and the 2.3 cam towers along with the 2.3 older style power steering pump on my 2.4 LD9 Oldsmobile Alero. Everything bolted right up except for one bolt....which was the lower bracket. But it worked fine for me for a while. I didnt drive it much though cause I never got it tuned.
GMR has got nothing on this

The 086 head is why the power steering setup worked. 086=2.3 head= no egr to get in the way.
I just had my HG2 intake cam modded for the ps hex and the cam position sensor pad and both towers modded for the 35mm lifters and it wasn't that expensive.
why did you have the exhaust tower modded, dale?
I planned to have an exhaust tower done when I did mine, but it was one that the dude messed up. The 2.4 gaskets are better in my opinion between the two halfs of a tower.
There is even a GM bulletin that states for what ever reason a cam housing should be replaced on a 87 or 88-93 to replace it with a 94 style housing because that was the year they changed the gasket design like a 2.4. I guess the old style leaked more than the new style.
i guess that makes sense but with advances in modern gasket design (aka fel-pro) i dont see it being a problem.
