Motor mount question

I have a question regarding them. When people say to get motor mounts in terms of "performance" what exactly do they do? I know their purpose is to prevent vibration of the vehicle and that they prevent damage to the engine and transmission components. What is the "performance" everyone is referring to? Also will these in the link be good? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PROTHANE-CAVALIER-95-04-ALL-MOTOR-MOUNT-INSERT-KIT-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eaf2aba88QQitemZ200507308680QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessori es

when i had mine in my 98 we tried to move the engine with a long screw driver after we installed them and the damn engine wouldn't budge.

it caused so much vibration its not funny

if you can deal with the vibration they are a great thing.

the performance is more power to the ground i guess

The factory motor mounts are known for being squishy as hell. And they get worse with age. The urethane mounts stiffen up the mounts by using a more firm rubber insert limiting all the slop. Did you ever watch an older LD9 rev?? Mine used to look like it was trying to play tag with my firewall. Lol. Those mounts will definitely stiffen everything up. All that torque that used to twist the motor around will now be easier put to the wheels. Only thing I suggest and will warn you about. These will cause added vibrations throughout the car. So bad in fact my dash started vibrating loose. Marc (RedDevil) tuned my idle up from 700 to about 900 rpm's to smooth it out and lessen the vibes. Hope that helps.

Weird my 02 has lots of vibes with all prothane mounts, but my 98 with just lower and upper insert almost has no vibes.

Ya I had all poly mounts and took them off within 3 days, dash vibrated and everything!! Did feel that it was worth it as i think there are many people here that could spend the money better and I would not ever use them again unless all I did was race the car or auto x . Definitely not streetable if you ask me.

Pussy.

Im running RKSport engine mounts and TTR tranny mounts. The car is perfectly street-able and yes the vibes inside the car are increased, but they are very tolerable. Hell i dont even notice them anymore.

Their purpose is to prevent some drivetrain powerloss and to help keep the engine/tranny from moving around. They will actually help prevent stress on exhaust downpipes/flexpipes. They are worth every penny.

its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa

Lol. How've you been, man? It's been awhile.

And to anyone who thinks the vibrations are too harsh, like I said. Get someone to tune your idle rpm up a little and it all mellows out.

Mine doesnt vibrate at all at idle, only feel the vibes more when the engine is lugging (which you shouldnt do anyways) and I have the ttr upper and lower mounts. Maybe thats just due to my superior ecotec engine. Clutch feel also improved, one funny thing was that engine noise in the cabin got louder, but unless you're on the stock exhaust like me then you wont notice that one.

It's been said that autos vibrate a lot more than the 5 speeds do. I've had solid mounts for years with no issues.
