is it possible to stoke out an L61 ecotec? i read that u could use a LE5 crank but u have to have custom rods and pistons made.. and if that wasnt enough, you also have to run a stand alone ECU..
i was wondering if anyone has come up with any other simpler way to stroke an Eco.

run the le5 bottom end with the l61 head. crank trigger wheel and an external crank sensor will allow you to skip the standalone ecu...
i can use the pistons and rods off the LE5? and what trigger wheel and crank sensor do i use?

you use the whole bottom end... block, rods, and pistons.
the crank trigger wheel phil had run a GP on awhile back. (qwibby on the forums) I believe you can actually use a stock crank sensor but just need to mount it externally. I believe both oldskool and qwibby had threads detailing what needed done.

If you would go with an LE5 bottom end, make sure you get an 06-07 model year, as they are the only ones with forged internals. Use Phil's trigger wheel for crank positioning, and use a simple L bracket to mount a stock crank sensor by the wheel. By far, the best bang for the buck to get a forged bottom with a little extra displacement. LE5s can be found (in the east PA area at least) for $400-500, and you can easily sell off the head and other accessories for half the cost. After I sold off the unneeded parts of my LE5, it cost me less than $300 to have a 55k mile forged bottom end.
good deal, ill look into it

Good to know. I was actually wondering if it was possible to do this.
