I have a 2001 Z24 cavalier with the 2.4 and wanting to get a little more ponies out of it. I've been thinking of getting an ebay header and would like to get an aftermarket exhaust except no coffee cans on it. What is the quietest exhaust out there and I've also been thinking of fabbing up my own CAI and porting or smoothing out the ridge in TB if there is any ridge. Any opinions on what I should do first. Also where is the best place to shop for performance parts for these rides. I don't know anything about these cars I'm a camaro guy so school me.
By far the best place to start looking for mods is
HERE

Got that right! Get an intake.

Your first "performance mods" should be your suspension.
I agree, suspension is what you should do first. After that, get an intake, real header, not an ebay one, and a cat back exhaust. I like Borla and Magnaflow's not too bad either. But they are on the pricer side of exhausts. And I like my K&N intake.
Upgrading exhaust will only help under wide open throttle remember. It will not make the vehicle more responsive.
An intake tube is an intake tube the only difference is looks brand name and cost. Mounting might be different but idk. Id go with the cheapest intake tube you can find.
viper performance chip. it will give you at least an extra 50 hp. the rest of these guys are telling you nonsense. they're just jealous cuz they didn't get that extra 50hp with their first mod.
ya but this chip is way better, 130hp it gives you!

Ya engine mounts should be up there too, I just recently bought mine, and when they finally come in from ttr I'll have a good upgrade, since our factory mounts are such junk.
I got a fully built suspension pretty much and my mounts made a huge difference in traction. Id still buy an intake first!

I'd recommend you start with the GM supercharger kit... or lots of nitrous. Go big or go home!
to the OP you want more ponies start reading, and then read some more.....hell keep going, its your choice what you decide to do, most of us do suspension, then exhaust, and intake, but if going to get intake think first, and think what your plans are with the car ahead of time that will determine what mods you should be doing

most ppl tell u do this or do that u have to listen (or read) it all then make an educated decision. if u want a little better mileage and some sound then a new muffler or header will work. if u want a lil better mileage and some power then a cold air intake and a muffler and add the header next. once the engine is breathing easier you can look into the suspension to help handle the extra speed u just added. if its not enough but u want more power to help when playing in traffic or on the strip u can then add a small nitrous shot (i think most motors can handle 50-75 or so) . u can add a chip now since ur motor is now breathing easier it will handle more fuel, timing(or less), throttle response, and more. plus it will help mileage if u stay of the fun pedal. lol. i have read a lot of magazines and articles about buildups of some really nice custom vehicles ranging from lifted monster trucks to slammed minis to bad ass muscle cars to street/strip cars to straight up never seen dirt on the mudflaps kinda car that the paintjob costs more than most ppls vehicles. i learned one thing and thats not focus on one aspect alone. look at it as all the pieces meshing together like gears in a well oiled machine. u could have this car that has a supercharger with a fully built motor and 3 inch exhaust and full body kit but it corners worse than double decker bus. or a machine that has a bone stock motor but the suspension rivals those on those japanese touring car races. add pieces to ur car as u see it needs. oh and when u add a piece u can have it dynoed to see the changes piece by piece becuase after a while those new parts get "broken in" and u add new ones it sees a smaller improvement per part than a big jump all at once. i am doin my car liek this. add a piece at a time until im forced to go into the motor then i will start over rethinking how the parts work. but i do like the idea of a car that can outhandle a vette but is restricted on power to keep the top end down. this way i can play but it sounds like a commuter.

Not completely true, but to an extent it is.
Is the intake tube not for air velocity, or am I out of my mind here?
