Best Muffler J-body???

Alright I have a pacesetter header 2.25in. downpipe, Catco Hi-Flow Catalytic converter, custom stainless 2.25 mandrel bent cat back exhaust with a magnaflow canister muffler. sounds great until 3700rpm and Higher it gets to raspy and I hate the way it sounds. So I was thinking of getting a Apexi N1 but some people have already shat on that idea So what do I get guys???? this is not my daily driver and the more it sounds like a wicked race car to me the better.

is the magnaflow a straight through design?

I posted my thoughts on street car mufflers in the "should i remove my cat" thread. If its a racecar then why does sound quality matter? The most wicked sounding race car exhaust is open header IMO. Exhaust note is a personal preference... one persone may like one exhaust while u think another sounds better.

Yes the magnaflow muffler is a straight through design... No its not a race car but damn close alot of it is carbon and it sits like 3in. off the ground kitted and just about every mod u can do to a j-body god I have to much money in this thing but no turning back now lol its a show car slash go! go! with all the handling goodies. and almost all the toyo goodies too labor of love but hadnt had much time to have fun with it yet always working on it with putting new mods on her. I have 97 eclipse as my daily driver.

On a non turbo j, dynomax super turbo...on a turbo j, an apexi n1 would sound amazing.

Thing is most higher end import style mufflers are meant to be on economy cars, but higher revving more race inspired vehicles. Ive always wanted to try something different with my turbo setup like maybe an apexi ws2 or greddy ti muffler to see what kind of sound they produce. Loved my megan n1 on my 3" turbo exhaust, but would never put a canon style muffler on a bolton jbody. I was even gona use a stock cobalt ss muffler to quiet down my catless 3" ehaust when I went back to a gmsc, but had a few resonators as well.

I had a magnaflow oval style muffler for years... like u said, raspy in high rpm. Just replaced it with a rectangular shaped magnaflow....totally different. Quiet at idle and nice deep sound up top. Couldn't be happier with sound and performance!

i have a magnaflow exhaust but for some reason my car sounds way better when in high RPMs. i have looked on youtube and the cavaliers sound like @!#$ on it. but mine i guess has a unique sound for it being magnflow.. but on one of my old cars i had a revolution exhaust that was good n sounded unique

I absolutely love how this muffler sounds, I'm running this with a big resonator, and I could not be happier.

You can use any tip you want, as long as it's the correct diameter. I originally had the shop leave mine with just a piece of aluminized pipe til I was sure I was keeping the muffler...I'm going to go back and have them just weld on a factory ls sport or 03+ Sunfire chrome tip so it looks stock.

oh i didn't know there where issues with it. i just like the whole idea of the valve to keep it quiet most of the time. i would go varex but they are way to expensive

The issue is with the spring snapping.

While n/a i would never run anything but a superturbo or something quiet that flows good like a cobalt ss muffler.why make alotta noise if your cars not going anwhere lol. And yes a good res should be incorporated.

No resonator or cat. Exhaust sounds great! If I had a 2.25 inch system maybe it would not.

well im either getting an apexi n1 because Im getting a turbo down the road or the dynomax with a tip. I want it to be loud but not ridiculously loud I like the way my magnaflow canister sounds now like I said until high rpms so Im thinking maybe if I just get a resonator it will take care of the raspy in higher rpm issue. and the haters an apexi n1 muffler is real nice and as long as a can muffler doesnt sound like some hondas i here around that sound "fart can" I could give a @!#$ my car is far from stock I dont want a quiet stock looking muffler! lol especially the ones that dont want a can muffler but have no cat and oversized exhaust piping. unless you have a turbo why the hell would you have over 2.25 exhaust piping on a 140-150hp cavalier give me a break.

Lol...ummm I have over 180whp!! Not 120whp. I need a 2.5 inch especially with more mods putting on soon. Good luck with your picks. I like the apexi n1
