hey. swappin my wrecked 2.4 for a fresh 2.4. its 5spd. i unbolted from the tranny and attempted to pull it that way but the tranny is stuck and theres no room to spread it apart. i dont have a socket the right size to unbolt my axles. any thing i could do?
take ur crank pulley off first thing...
then you will need to put a jack under the trans to raise/lower it as needed and use the cherry picker on the engine.
stick a big thin bladed screwdriver or wedge of some kind between the trans and engine block and manuever them apart. there are two stubborn and annoying line up pins.. you'll need to spread the two apart enough to get those free. then all you gotta worry about is the clutch. (taking the crank pulley off gives you enough room to move the engine over)
that should be all it takes.
Your going to need to get the axles out in order to remove the tranny. Other then that everything z yaaaa said will help for sure.
edit: your taking the motor out, reading fail on my part. disrguard that lol

jack the car up, and separate the steering knuckles from the ball joints, tie rods and struts, then just remove the axles on the transmission side. its a lot of work but if you don't find away around it, its an option.
i got the motor and trans about an inch apart. i haven't pulled the pulley yet tho. my a/c compressor is hitting too. will that have to come off?
well its either that or disconnect the lines.. which would drain youre freon.
Ive never had an issue pulling an LD9 with the crank pulley on.
On my car, a 99 5 speed, the only time I pulled the trans the same time as the motor is when I did the Isuzu to Getrag swap. Other than that, the trans always stayed in the car.
I just did a 01 GA auto last week. removed the 3 bolts from the torque converter and pried the motor and trans apart using a couple long screw drivers and up it went, with the crank pulley still attached.
Make sure you have everything removed wiring and hose wise. When I pulled the GA motor, I left the exhaust manifold bolted to the down pipe and just removed the nuts from the head and tied the manifold away from the motor against the firewall.

If you pull your compressor off it will be easier and you wont have to have it recharged when you put your motor back in. I would remove your crank pully and your compresor at minimum. It might make things easier. Plus it will help you from damaging your compressor if you unbolt it from the motor before you pull it.

it just makes it a lot easier. personally... id rather not bang the engine/crank pulley into the frame rail sratching it all to hell but thats just me.
