i already am bracing for the bashing that's to come...
here's the question:
i'm going on vacation, and seeing as i can't afford to rent a car, i'm going to take the sunfire, problem is the exhaust is hanging on by threads (literally) and no place in town will just weld hangers on the pipe, so i'm considering taking a sawzall to my exhaust system.
i've wired the exhaust up about 6 times so far with multi purpose wire, and i'm sick of doing it.

question: how badly will it F*ck my car up if i cut the exhaust off after the flexpipe?
i already know it's going to be loud, and i'll get exhaust tickets so on so forth..
i'm just looking for a cheap temporary fix, the exhaust is only attatched to the car by the 10% of flexpipe that's remaining and by the rear axle holding it up. that's all that attatches it to the car.
once i get back from ohio i'm going to spend the money for a full exhaust system.

Damn the loudness is going to suck. But it is not going to mess your car up. Just when driving around town don't be trying to rev the engine if you dont have to. You might get lucky and not get pulled over. If you do, just tell em the damn thing fell off after you ran over something.
After all that said, id try to find another alternative lol

Lol same problem here man my flexpipe rusted through so I just cut it off so now the exhaust is coming out where the flexpipe use to be lol honestly haven't got pulled over yet even in town but that just depends on the area ur from and how much that cop wants to buy his wife a new toaster this year lol but ne how u should be fine

i have another.. i have another o2 sensor.. i think after the cat, obviously i'll have to remove it, will it run okay after? i've heard ugly things about removing o2 sensors from these cars... but i'll still have the semi-new o2 on the manifold.
That second O2 isn't overly important. Mines been dead since I bought the car, same with others I know of. Plus they're almost $300 around here. Haven't heard of anyone having any problems from not having it.
the rear O2 sensor is only used for making sure the catalytic converter is in working condition. so removing it wont retard timing increase injector pulse or do anything to the tune of the car. it will simply turn on the CEL and the code will be catalyst below efficiency. so hack it off at the flex pipe but dont run to long that way as its more than just a loud exhaust ticket he can also charge you with illegal modification and emissions so be very very careful

No offence but if you cant afford to fix the car then you should not be going on a vacation, you should be spending that money to fix it. If it was around the rear axle where you were going to cut it off then fine but up there, you will probably get exhaust fumes in the cabin of the car, plus the exhuast will probably be popping flames under your car? something could catch on fire, no?
To do a cheap ghetto fix, make sure all the leaks are fixed up front (If any). Then if your wire is breaking, maybe try "chicken wire" unless its the same stuff you have? I have always had some in my 4x4, one time 2 of my hangers broke and used it to tie my exhaust back up and it is good for temp fixing almost anything. There is also this steel banding stuff in the picture below, it is very universal and strong enough to hold your exhaust up, just need to find something to tie it to on the car, use 1/4" bolts to tie the strap together. Its gheeto but very cheap and will get you by..... when you can afford it, I would get it fixed properly. Hope that helps.
