swapped my fkd 99 2.4 for a 2000 2.4, finished it yesterday. first swap i ever did. car runs and drives great but it gets real hot and over flows till most of the antifreeze is gone. this mostly happens when i'm parked for a few minutes or driving slow. so we think there's air in the system.
i'm wondering how to get it out or what else it could be?
pretty proud of myself for this to be the only thing wrong for a first time thing
Assuming:
- there are
absolutely no coolant leaks
- your head gasket isn't leaking
Run it forever with the cap off and squeeze some hoses every once in a while, rev it up every once in a while.

Could be a bad radiator cap if it's pushing coolant out, or like he said, a bad headgasket allowing more than ~15 psi to build up in the cooling system.

Last one I had to bleed went like this.
Fill the tank to the proper level with the proper anti-freeze/water mix.
Leave the cap off and start the engine.
Stand over it and watch.
At some point, you'll actually see the water level in the tank start to raise, shut the engine off at this point. (a second hand helps for this) You should see it start dropping, or probably even see some air bubble out of it. Then just wait for the coolant level to stop dropping, and restart the engine. Repeat the process until it stops doing this.
If the coolant level starts to drop while you're standing there, just pour some more in.
