Tuesday, January 12, 2010 6:20 AM

i bought this block from clyde back in August. in that time i don't exactly remember where he told me i needed to install pipe plugs. In this picture, do i just need them where the X'ed out holes are, or is there anywhere else.

thanks!!

This is my previous block. I think all the plugs are in but I will have to see if I can find another picture.

it appears that just the Xed out holes need plugs from that pic... i could have sworn you told me a third place to plug though

There are three Xs on the block but one has a plug just barely in it. That may be the third one you were thinking of. I know I have better pictures somewhere but that have eluded me so far.

im about to pick it up from the powdercoat shop and drop it off at the machine shop... i'll tell them to tap and plug the two Xes, and see if they can secure the third one with the plug in it a little better.

I'm also going to tell them about the 2 holes needed to be drilled and tapped for the windage tray, and to install the heli-coil for the knock... that should be everything, right?

I think so. other than those locations its just a matter of making sure all the normal factory plugs are installed. As far as I remember, they were never removed.

ok, I stumbled upon this topic looking for things to try and I was wondering what the reason was for plugging these holes, and why are you having holes tapped in your windage tray? >.< please don't make fun of me haha

If you don't plug the holes you won't have any oil pressure, since all the oil will just shoot right back into the oil pan out of those holes.

Thus causing catastrophic engine failure.

^^ yep!!! those holes fed the stock oil system. without them plugged it'd be like a garden hose on full bore shooting oil out LOL

Who doesn't? They are pretty important for gear mesh.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

How many people actually measure the mesh and shim the pump accordingly?
