started modding... where to go next?
Friday, September 16, 2011 11:19 PM
ihave a 1998 2dr 2200 5spd.
already did quite a bit of work to it:

aem style CAI
stainless ebay header
2 1/2" stainless ebay catback (replaced the fart can with a cherry bomb turbo)
no cat
ebay strut tower bar
TTR upper motor mount

im looking at doing a 1.6 roller rocker swap (i know theres a thread) but i need to know EXACTLY what id have to do for that.

might get eibach sway bars

maybe some ebay cross drilled and slotted rotors- should i get metallic orceramic pads?

ebay has short throw shifters... anybody got one?

i will take any input from you guys... just know that im keeping it N/A... i am much to poor for a turbo...and this is my DD

I would recommend investing in suspension. Sway bars along with struts and springs will make the ride a lot more enjoyable. Making good power without forced induction is tough, expensive, and not the best idea for a DD IMO. Also beware of Ebay cross drilled rotors... Ive heard cracking tend to be an issue with them... good luck with your mods!

Ebay is not the brand, it's simply the place you buy it from.

Skip the fancy rotors. Just buy the cheapest parts store ones. They will all stop the same in your case, and heck the cheap ones should stop a little better because you have more contract area for the pad. Pads are the important part. Hawk, EBC, and carbotech are the brands you want to choose from.

ttr lower motor mount
gm front strut bar (i have one for sale if interested pm me)
rear strut bar (preferably O.E.M., but ebay one will work)
good short throw
ttr tranny mounts
sway bars front and rear

from there if your'e not happy with the car's performance (which you won't be if you really want to go fast) you have two choices.

1.) turbo or nitrous
2.)ld9 swap

i would usually say eco swap but you have a 98 and an eco swap would be pointless. yes i know it's your dd, but n/a balls out on a 2200 is about as effective as what an eco or ld9 start with stock. without nitrous or boost on those motors your'e just kind of pissing in the wind. although with some pretty basic bolt on's there's no reason the car can't be a fun dd even with a small amount of bolt ons.

really depends where you want to go with the car and how much money your'e willing to dump into a slow car to still wind up with a slow car. sorry to sound so down about these cars but if possible i'm just trying to save you alot of money and regret down the road.

if i were you i would finish with the list i started with at the top and enjoy your 30+ mpg beater. with sway and strut bars and a short throw, mounts and all that kind of stuff the car will still be a fun little ride.

besides that car needs more help in the exterior department. no offense.

good luck bud.

Ive bee using hawk pads for the past three years. I couldnt be happier. Before that i used ebc greenstuff pads they wore out fast.

well... i realize it needs help in the exterior department. but thats still part of this thread. ANY suggestions. and before you guys rag too hard on it... i have less than 1000 into this car including what i paid for the car, and mods.

im not looking to be real fast... just a little bit more fun.

Stock exterior is a good thing. If you feel the need to spend money on it though get the hood painted to match the rest of the car and try to find color match side mirrors and side moldings in the junk yard (or get them painted too).

wow... thanks guys...

i AM planning on getting the car painted next summer... just cant do it now

some of the later models have a more agressive front bumper... im not sure what years... may just be a z24 thing... what do you consider the best looking bumper offered? and is it just the cover or do i have to change the entire bumper assembly to swap it?
Re: started modding... where to go next?

if you stay within the 95-99 years you can grab some z24 bumpers

if you get a 00-02 you have to swap headlights, bumper, hood, and possibly fenders? i'm not sure on that one

There are bracket differences between the different stages for the corner lights to bolt to.
