I found a Quad 4 with a 5 speed at a local scrap yard, the yard owner wasnt there so i dont know whats wrong with the car besides the body damage (he normaly pulls the motor/trans but not this one)
what i need to know is how much should i offer for the car, well the engine/trans is all that is good (hoping the engine still runs)
im going out some night this week to see if it starts?
I have a LN2 4 speed 2001 . . . what are my options? im guessing to swap i would need the Engine/trans/engine harness/5speed linkage/pedals etc.
just curious will the tranny bolt up to the LN2?
thanks in advance
I don't think it's gonna matter what you offer, Typically yards have set prices/core charges on items. You will probably be able to get a running parts car cheaper than just the engine from the yard.
And no, You will need a 5 speed that came from a 2.2l car to put it on your 2.2.
ok, but my family owns a body shop here in town and they buy a lot of our junked cars, so its kind of like a offer what i think its worth, which is good cause hell prolly let me "buy the whole car" and return what i dont use, all he wants is scrap metal. so for now i hope it runs
are you talking about swapping the whole drivetrain into your 2.2 auto cav ???
first questions is WHICH 2.3 5speed are you looking at??? what year? what version..WHICH CAR.
second, keep in mind that if your car is an auto you need more than a tranny and linkage, youll need the master cylinder, clutch pedal and all the parts to make these things work, including the shifter
im not sure what year, couldnt tell from front being smashed and too crowded with weeds to get to back, but hood was popped and i could see in driver side enough to see it was 5 speed, and yes i plan to get the whole car if it runs and swap everything i need over to mine
you still havnt even told us what KIND of car its in
Cavalier . . . late 90's . . .
sorry about that, kinda forgot the fact that they came in a lot of cars
well if its a twin cam not a real quad 4, I would expect it is there because teh driver was distracted by the rod knock and spun into a tree.
Not all quads have rod knock....
while you have the motor out of the car, do the 2.3 oil pump swap, put in clevite 77 bearings, and balance the crankshaft... you'll have a much stronger and happier bottom end...
my plan is to spend my time on the engine while its out of the car . . . so my parts list so far:
Clevite 77 Bearings
2.3 Oil Pump
Balance
one question, sorry about this, but if the Twin Cam engine isnt the "real Quad 4", how can i tell if it the "real" Quad 4
the engine i looked at said 'Quad 4" on the cover, not Twin Cam
There are many ways to find out if its an LD9, LN2, or LG0. But the easiest way just by visual inspection to see if its a Twin Cam or Quad 4 is the location of the oil dip stick.
Quad 4 has it in the front coming out through the intake manifold and the Twin Cam has it back near the exhaust manifold.
GMR has got nothing on this
so the wording on the engine is in a sense "useless", ill try to get over there today and ispect it a bit more(see what it is, if it runs) , it was raining yesterday and i wasnt in a "finding more stuff out" mood
it may have been a 95 2.3.. in which case... dont even botha.

Blasphemy! Those are great engines! I miss mine. They were quicker in stock form than an LD9 car.
However, to the OP, you're going to run into electrical issues unless you rewire some of the car. That car is OBD 1.5, which is basically just a pain in the @ss, and it won't run your 2001 cluster.
talked to the guy today, it is deff a Quad 4, thts all i know until i get the year of the car, and he said last he remembers the car runs
well the twin cam is part of the quad 4 family...
look at the intake mani, if its plastic, its a 2.4 litre twin cam (GM RPO LD9)... If its metal, and looks similar to the one in my signature, its a 2.3 quad 4 (One of several GM RPO codes)
However if it looks modified at all, throw my theory out the window... as example, my signature shows a metal manifold, and the IDI cover says Quad 4 high output... but i really have a twin cam LD9...
if its in a late 90s car and says quad 4 its most likely a 95.

take your car and paint it green, smash the front up and you have the car im looking at, deff a metal intake
so am i better off waiting for an eco? or what year engine is going to be the most benificial, i dont care about cheap or easy, but what will be the best bang for the buck,
