LG0 Valve train parts....almost all gone...
Wednesday, September 21, 2011 12:14 PM
So I guess the well of "new" valve train parts is now officially almost dried up.

I found a few melling exhaust cams,
NO intake cams,
NO valve springs,
and only a few lifters.

I called / looked everywhere: Autozone, Advanced autoparts, O'reilly's, ebay, Napa, and even GM.

So, I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the last few parts I need. Also, 2.3 oil pump swap parts are pretty much gone. I knew this day would come, but I didn't think it was going to be so soon.

I know I had a hard time finding the oil pump drive gear for the 2.3. When I ordered mine the lady at Rock Auto said it was the last one they had and didn't plan to get any more. It was the Cloyes one.

They don't even list it on their website anymore.

mike- did you not try vintage parts? they have plenty of the 2.3 oil pump swap parts left as well as the valve springs. its all pretty spendy but price you gotta pay for brand new.

melling has part numbers for the pump and pickup.

and what happened with the gm search? unless someone did what i did and got the phone numbers of about 12 or so different gm dealers around the country that had the valve springs left and bought 2 or 3 at a time i really think theres a few left out there. i didnt buy them all but did get 19 and i remembered there was a few left too.... problem was most places only had one so its a big ordeal to get 16 but hey if thats all you can do...

i found these...

lifers

HO ext. cam

ive bought several items from this place and i know tons of others have as well. they are literally 20 miles from me. lol id call them up and see what they have.

Still no intake cam at all.

Vintage parts was having, computer problems, but the guy said he couldn't see any in stock. I'm calling back today to try again.

I used to have a lot of GM part numbers but saddly have lost most of them. I have to go digging, but I think i have 16 brand new 2.3 rotators, retainers, and seals, and 12 keepers all still in the packages. If I can find them I will at least have those numbers.

Vintage Parts need either a VIN or GM part numbers before they will sell me anything. DAMN IT TO HELL.

lol mike... fine i will spoon feed you.

2.3 oil pump swap sticky thats not really a sticky but should be and kyle can change all that wrote:Parts Needed

2.3L Pump:
Crank Gear for the pump: 22531309 or Cloyes 2557
Windage Tray: 22536409
Baffle Stud: 22542521 x2
Baffle Bolt: 22540299 x2
Oil Pick Assembly: 22539133
Brace: 24570677
Bolt To Screen: 11516802 x2
Nut For Brace: 22535081 x2
Bolt Flange Head: 11516061 x2
Oil Pump Bolts To Block: 14050422 x2
Locator Pins For Pump: 22531530 x2

vpartsinc.com says there are:

(97) windage tray's
(383) pick-up's
(9) brace's
(153) crank gear's
(157) windage tray stud's

as for the rest of the bolts, studs, and nuts they are not on there, however... you can still get some of them from gm. dont let them stop trying after they see a part is discontinued... im telling you, they CAN do a dealer search and these parts are still out there... you just gotta do some digging thats all. the dealer will give you the phone numbers for the other dealers with the parts and then you take it from there. most dealers will give you a good price since its an item thats been on their shelf for years.

and for the valve springs and lifters just ask ur dealer to give you the part number and then go to vpartsinc.com to pick them up. i know they have the springs cuz ive looked before. they have brand new 95 intake cams as well as some HO's too iirc...
