are all l61 blocks the same? sensors?
Tuesday, October 04, 2011 11:19 PM
i was just wondering if all l61 blocks are the same? im looking at buying a 2007 cobalt engine.. i figured this is the fastest way to get an answer since the engine is about an hour and a half drive just to go look at it... i know id have to change the intake manifold and possibly the head but i was just wondering if the block and timing setup was the same? i know that it has a cam position sensor.. but im guessing id need to swap heads over anyways... im worried the trans side is different since they use a different trans... well to anyone that reall knows not just guesing thanks for the info... worth a shot its pretty much a steal.

I believe all l61 engines are the same along with the head. The variations that differ have a different engine code (lnf,lsj,le5) about 99.999% sure

And the crank triggers are different.

So the heads are different?

Do not get the cobalt engine unless you want to swap crank shafts, or run an external trigger wheel.

Js are 6+1, and deltas are 50 something...

The trigger wheels are part of the crank shaft.

How about a ion engine into a cavalier? I know the interchange doesn't include it but I am unsure why. The ion is a 04 and so is the cavalier. The timing chain let loose in the cavalier and bent the valves so I can't swap the head. Not sure if differences are in the power steering or egr?

Well, the ion uses a motorized power steering located in the car, under the steering wheel itself. The ion and cobalt use the same engines. I use to own a 2004 Saturn Ion Redline, but it was complete junk and got rid of it. The car kept breaking motor mounts, flex pipes, blowing ac fuses, and the shift cable pins also kept breaking.

I have put a ION 2.2 into a J. Ran just fine (we did swap the intake cam to run the power steering.

Was the flywheel/clutch/pressure the same as the j-body?
