My sunfire keeps over heating and loosing water from my overflow, i was just wondering if anyone knows what it could be from? i have already replaced the water pump and thermostat, and the only other thing i could think of would be the head gasket, but there isnt any water in my oil, and theres no water coming out my exhaust. i have taken the thermostat out so it always runs cool but winters coming up and would like to out a new one back in. but when it does over heat it doesnt get to the red line, close but not quite, and there must be pressure building up cause it gets pushed out my over flow. if anyone has any ideas of what this could be, please let me know! thanks

unless hes filling it with water rather than coolent
well if its coming out of the reservoir, its leaking there... if the temp gauge is "just reading high"... it could be a faulty ECT Sender
Happend to me before it was a bad head gasket. You could have a shop measure your exhaust for coolent, or you could have them check your coolent resevoir for exhaust. Can check your oil for coolent too.
Pull spark plugs, the only surefire way to know. You'll have a puddle on top of your piston and the spark plug(s) will be wet.
Also pull the crankcase vent hose from the timing cover and look inside to see if any whitish goo is in there.

When they check your coolent resevoir for exhaust they use a strip like a diabetic strip. If there is any exaust in your coolent it changes color. This will be a dead give away if you have a bad head or head gasket. If you dont feel like ripping things apart on your motor this would be the fastest and easiest way to do it.
Thanks for the tips, i think im just going to try the next thing, head gasket and see what that does. but for everyone who wanted to know, im pretty sure it was leaking from my resevoir, i dont know though, it would only weak when i drove it, but i have noticed before when i stopped it was dripping from underneath my car, but i checked time and time again and i couldnt find any place beasides the resevoir overflow that it would be coming from. im gonna do them few tests but, im pretty sure ill just change the head gasket. and i only put water because thats what ive been putting it in for coolant, anti-freeze would be way to expansive for how much i have to fill it up. lol
