Mild Build Plans-Correct me if I am wrong
Tuesday, November 01, 2011 6:28 PM
I have been absent for about a year getting my Sunfire GT straightened out and running well. A friend totalled my SE 4 door, and I bought a blown-up GT coupe as a project. As of the moment, I have no modifications on it but aftermarket wheels, an intake kit and low restriction mufflers. The motor has about 130,000 miles on it. Soon, I am planning on tearing it down and making some mild modifications. I just got the alignment fixed, new tires, and new brakes put on, and the motor at long last running well. These are my plans, let me know if I left anything out or have any redundant plans

1) Remove Engine
2) Remove Body Panels, Doors, Fenders, and Hood
3) Paint Shell, Doors, and Body Panels
4) Sandblast, Prime, Paint and Clearcoat Rims
5) Install New Oil Pump
6) Drop Engine Back In Car
7) Reassemble Car
8) Install:
-Slotted Drilled Rotors
-Semi-Metallic Pads
-Convertible J-body Front Strut Bar
-Oil Cooler(Maybe???)
-Some Kind of Lowering Kit(Adjustable Kit?)

Please tell me what I am missing, I know my plans are a little bit under developed right now. My goal is a D-series Civic killer, mild autocross build, sharp looking car, and solid engine. I know the oil pump in the 2.4 fails like an SOB so I want to do that, should I also do timing chain? What about back brake conversions? Will 4 way disks help that much? What about springs, will super high dollar springs matter that much compared to low budget or adjustable height springs? Is it worth it to chip a J-body? Suggestions would be appreciated, something more specific than "search bar, n00b". Thanks!

LOL i would suggest going through the brake and suspension forum for most of the mods listed. Look through the FAQ's and do a little searching. The performance FAQ on here is a bit outdated but will give you a good start. If you want to be a "D-series Civic killer" You might want to build up the engine a bit more, especially if you're already going to be taking it out an easy thing i'd ad would be motor mounts. A header and header-back exhaust are kind of basics that youll need to look into. Your specific goals will determine exactly which route you should go.
