i have the 2.2L non-ecotec in my 2002 sunfire and was wondering what others did to there 2.2L non-ecotecs? I know some of the main specs of the motor just seeing if I should start doing aftermarket work on the 2.2 or maybe install a 2.4 or ecotec 2.2? just looking for advice. Thanks.

Hey Jeff, I would like to atleast get 200hp, and obviously install an aftermarket suspension that is stiffer (less body roll). thats all for now.

you'll need a turbo setup

Could use a tower brace, and energy bushings for end links and sway bar. That would wbe very effective for body roll. And while changing suspension would be a great time to do it.

Blew it up, took it out and put a 3400 in.

Well I used to own a 2.2 non eco cav and by far the best thing I did to it was a solid suspension setup. Addco front and rear swaybars, f/r strut towner bars, yellow koni's and tein s tech springs, and a good set of tires will make that slow car a much more responsive and fun dd. If you feel the brakes are crappy I'd suggest going with stainless steel braided lines to help firm up the peddal and my personal preferance is ebc black dash rotors and yellow pads.
As far as the power situation....don't bother unless your going to do a simple turbo kit. Otherwise swap another motor in like an eco or quad and add a gm blower kit and your set.
I think 200 is possible n/a but eont be cheap. But 200hp out of a 2200 anyway u go wont be cheap, except nitrous. 200 n/a id say custom pistons, rods, cam, valves, springs, ported head, injectors, exhaust, tune, and then do something about the t/b. Or just drop in a lsj...

Back to topic, u still lookin to do a 2200 build?
I really just want to give my LN2 more power till it dies. and then if i cant afford a different vehicle replace the motor that has a more 'stock' power. I don't really want to spend alot of money but I also know that if I go the cheap route of modifying my LN2 it wont last long. So i guess in all reality I would like at least 150HP (I know not the 200 i said earlier) cause 115HP just ain't much for bare bone stock lol... I know my best option for not being naturally aspirated is a turbo. but what else can i do?

Whats your budget... for 150... or 200
My budget is for 150hp. i would like to say 1000, but i will go to 1500.

1500 dollars will not get you anywhere close to 150 horses to the wheels unless you spray ive put atleast 2500 into mine and proply only have about 140 to the wheels. That 115 that everybody talks about is not to the wheels btw thats just what the motor puts out.
Considering your budget, maybe you make no changes to the engine, and just do suspension mods, maybe some motor mounts. Both will stiffen up the ride, and at least make it more of a fun ride. Even with 115 hp, you can still take those corners fast with a good suspension. The motor/tranny mounts may give you better throttle response, since there's less vibrations absorbed by the mounts
Maybe he doesn't care about whp. And the thing I've noticed with the 2200 is that the quality control sucks. Some of them have nothing for power at all, while others are unnaturally powerful. Mine put down 140whp at a dyno day in September, while I've seen others with more done put down almost 40whp less.

I think your right. I don't see alot of built LN2's. probably for a reason.

How about starting with a brand new motor, and reworking the head(valves port and mill for more comp) i think we still have a few brand new 2200's sittin around i can prob get for around 700 bucks. Rework the head and get it tuned and i think you'ld be over 150 at the flywheel. I have a 96 that i did head work to and it made a big differance for just a little head work (see 96-97 head mod parts) let me know if interested and i'll check and make sure we still have some and check price

Yah, and I'm a person who HAS built their LN2, so I know just how much of a money pit it is
but i'm still here, making it better. One day i'll get that turbo install, I swear! haha. Maybe i'm just crazy.

The problem with buying something of that size is that the shipping cost would be outrageous.
