Playing off of one of my earlier threads, I still need a Christmas gift idea. I decided against engine and transmission mounts, and any maintenance that needs to be done will be done in my family shop anyways, leaving me still gift idea-less. lol. I was thinking maybe an exhaust, but I'm very picky about my exhaust notes. I rather dislike the high-pitched, crackly, raspy and ricer-like fart cans that everyone throws on their cars. I'm looking for a nice smooth deep tone that won't annoy the @!#$ out of me or passengers. Unfortunately, the people on youtube don't really have the same tastes and just throw an autozone muffler on there and record a crappy video.
Luckily I found one sound that I rather like:
I'm not looking for a dual exhaust setup, just a sound similar to whats in the video above. Not too crackly, not high-pitched, not extremely loud (notice how you couldn't even hear it coming at you down the street til it passed). I don't wanna wake up the neighbors or sound like I got the car out of a cereal box. Know what I'm sayin?
Any insight as to how I'd be able to get a similar sound would be awesome. (after reading some comments I found that the mufflers are an "ss 409 muffler". Not sure what brand that is)
Dynomax super turbo muffler.....
I like my cherry bomb turbo muffler, it doesn't do much good right now since my exhaust is falling apart around the cat and down pipe, so I cant take a video. but when it was all held together the right way, it was fairly quite at idle, smooth deep tone when accelerating, didnt cough crackle much. smooth sound cruising, never annoyed me or passengers.

Dots after what you said why? Cuz it's obvious or something? lol I've never been interested in an exhaust or muffler rather up until now. I can't seem to find a video of a cavalier (2.4) with a dynomax super turbo muffler, but on other cars it seems to have a nice deep tone that I'm looking for. On the Dynomax website, it doesn't have the option to choose cavalier so idk what model number to look at. I'm assuming 2inches inlet and 2inch outlet? Side to center? And then I gotta pick up an exhaust tip right? A little help please haha.
Sorry for the double post but, this is the Maganflow that I was looking at for comparison:

Borla! Check out the above link and see what ya think. It seems our tastes are about the same for exhaust, and this is the route I went. Good luck in your search.

X100.. and if you plan on doing any other exhaust work, get a resonator too.

That actually sounds pretty awesome. I wish the video was better quality. I can't seem to find any other videos of Z24's with a stock exhaust setup and a Borla Pro XS Muffler though :/ I wanna see how it sounds in higher revs as well. Maybe you can vouch for it? What about highway drone?

Unfortunately, I don't have my car all put together yet, so I don't have my own video or anything (but I should be up and running in 3-4 weeks). I know a few buddies with a Borla set up..with 4cyl, V6 and V8 engines. They are all smooth with a deep tone. I too have looked for a longer and better vid with a Cavy like the one I posted, but have come up empty. As for highway drone, most of my Borla expierience has come while riding my good friends V6 car which sounds great. I've never been annoyed by his at all. Good luck with your search. Exhaust is very important IMO.

I believe Darkstars had the Borla Pro XS on the GTC and I remember it sounding really well. Look him up, he may have had a clip of it in the exhaust thread.

Yeah, I've decided to get the Borla Pro XS 40346 Muffler. I'll grab a new tip too, but I really like how these sound on just about ever car. Even... Corolla S. lol idk why there's so many videos of it, but tons of people put these on their Corollas and even those sounded good. I'll post a proper exhaust video when I get mine installed towards the end of this month (Outside Cold / Warm Start, revs, fly bys, interior recording, highway cruising). No one seems to know how to make a proper exhaust video.
Excellent choice IMO! Ill look forward to the vids to see how it turned out for ya. I should have mine done this month, too. Crossing my fingers lol.

Just thought i'd put this here...i got dynomax super turbo (the longer one), glasspack, mag cat, pacesetter headers and here is the noise levels i got windows up in car....at idle 44.3 db, 70 mph 74.3 db, and full throttle is 84.9 db. This is using dbA weighting which is what they use in the magazines. When you go to dbC which inckudes everything you can hear the readings go as high as 100db
I'm kinda looking for something like this, i started off with a magnaflow..but it fell off driving down the intestate when i hit a bump thanks to whoever welded it on, turned around to go get it and it was gone haha
So i just kept the cat and straight piped the rest but it got kinda annoying. Threw a glasspack on there and dumped it out but still wanting it a little quieter.

I came across this one and absolutely love it. Idk where or how to get it, but it sounds great
It says down in the description and comments, its gm performance cobalt ss system, not sure if that means its muffler and resonator or just muffler, but i like it too.
am I the only one left still running the vibrant catback?

Flowmaster super 40 sounds good with a 18in dynomax bullet as a res. The spintech prostreet with a 22" res sounds like a race car. The spintech 3000xl with a 16" res is sex sounds so good no rasp just pure lovin
see ya!
This is a Megan Racing exhaust muffler with a 2 foot cheap glass pack as a resonator. It has 2.25 exhaust from the header collector all the way back. but mine is an LN2 not an LD9
Some of these videos make me want to cry. YUCK!
