Thinking of replacing the pump in my 03 before it dies, seeing as though it is famous, and would rather not be left stranded.
I am going to go with the W Body one. Fpa-007 to be exact.
I've read lots about running the harness, and my question is should I even bother with it?
Anything to look out for if I use the W body pump?
hear is my thought on the harness.
If you dont get it you will have to prime the pump everytime you start your car. if this dont bother you id say no.
but the conclusion I came to it's 50 bucks I have spent that on stupider crap then a harness lol.
bad part of not getting it is if you dont get it and install the pump then get tired of priming it you'll have to pull the tank again to install the harness. me personally I like to jump in my car turn the key and ot starts no problem.
I have heard just the pump by its self and with the harness honestly you can hear the difference between the two. the $50 is worth it. but not necessary.
I did the f -body pump too not sure if w-body fits maybe some one can clear that one up.
its $20 more then the w -body but I can assure you it fits

The w body is a direct swap, same as the fbody one.
The harness just provides 14v from my understanding, not the priming issue. The priming issue is from not having a check valve, like most aftermarket pumps.
ya it provides 13-14 volts.
I use to have to prime with just the pump now I have the harness I no longer do. it gets the power straight from the battery rather then the stock harness putting less strain on the car. its a preferences on you tho you dont exactly need it. the car will run just fine with out it.
Alright I'm gonna see what else others have to say. If it doesn't take long to do I guess it is probably worth the hassle. Barely have anytime to wrench on the car anymore.
Chris do you have the harness connected to the positive post on the battery? On mine I had to connect the power feed from the alt directly.
Slocav- Basically if you want the pump to work at it's best it's worth the extra dough. Like Chris said I've spent more on worse things. The harness is very nicely put together and it's cheap piece of mind over the tiny factory wiring.
it takes maybe 10 mins more two plugs the top of the tank then one wire you ground off a bolt in the back and I zip tied on the top of the fuel lines to the front of the car and to the fuse box power wire or you can go straight to the battery. I went to fuse box cause it looks cleaner.
You do not need the harness, but it does help. I was messing with the harness directly to the battery, and directly to the Alternator. Strange as it is it seems to start faster off the battery. Mine is hooked up to my alternator though. At the alternator its getting 14.4V. I do need to prime the pump before I fire over the car with the f-body pump.

no I went to the power wire that feeds the fuse box in the engine bay was told that power wire was the same as going to the alternator directly. ill test that spot when I can and see what volt I come up with. if its less then 14.4 v like MD is getting guess im moving a wire cause I want my moneys worth. ill let you know the outcome
Racetronix Fbody pump here. Harness as well. If I had to do it all over again, id do it identical to how it is now. The factory wiring is shabby at best... And like others have said, ive spent more on dumber things. It was literally, plug this connector here, this one here, run wiring here, drill hole and screw relay to the front core support, rear relay to rear frame support, done.
I ran the harness off the alternator..... per the directions. Considering if I ever have a problem, thats how they designed it to work and can go from there.
As for the priming issue. I have never had to "prime" my car for it to start. no matter what I turn the key and start the car and have never had an issue. I have primed it before, but it was probably not on purpose. No need for me to though.
For sure upgrade pump and harness at the same time. will be worth it in the end. Personally Id save the stock pump, just in case something goes wrong and you need to replace it... I think I gave PJ mine when he was in a jam. never know when it helps out.

I do have to prime the car. I just turn the key on and let the pump prime, if I don't it will turn over a few extra times before starting.

Next question is, a lot of you are running the F-body pump... Will I see the same output with the W body one? Easier to drop in and takes less time which is a plus for me.

yes fbody, has red sleeve you remove.
yes wbody is same as fbody minus sleeve.
yes wire fuel pump to alternator. some have to prime, some don't.

yes same output, because same pump.
If I did it again it would be the Wbody pump because it is the same pump slightly cheaper.

So just order the W-Body pump and get the f-body harness if I'm not mistaken?
i have the fbody pump no harness. i prime the car, but thats just cuz i do. turn the key to on, hear pump prime turn key to start and fires right up. if i dont, it turns over a few times before firing.

Any tips/pointers when dropping the tank? I've never had to do it on a j-body, am I able to disconnect the lines before dropping the tank or will I need to drop it a few inches to access them?
gonna be a fly on the wall on this one...I just bought a supercharger and I need to upgrade from my factory fuel pump. No friggin clue how, and not many of the how'tos are very straight forward (having to shave this, cut that, splice this, etc). Is there much wiring/splicing to do with the harness or can we just plug and go like Chris Gatti explained with his install?

you can disconnect all the lines before you pull the tank its so easy hole thing can be done in 2-3 hours
