Put glasspack on without weld?
Friday, January 20, 2012 6:11 AM
My stock muffler on my new cavalier is starting to fall off and is hanging by clothes hangers. I have a 18" thrush glasspack and want to replace the stock with the thrush. I don't have the money for a welding job and want to know if I can use a U-bolt to hold it on the tailpipe and run it through the clothes hangers?

color me lost so you want to ditch the stock muffler thats held up by clothes hangers but you want to replace it with another muffler that.. let me get this straight, is held up by those same clothes hangers? so what are you gaining here???

id say wait til you have cash to mod ur car. until then, get under there and get that stock muffler hung correctly. 9 times out of 10 its the rear hanger that breaks on our cars. simply go to a local junkard and source one for 5 dollars.

new hangers are $15. i wouldn't crawl under a car at a wrecker to save $10... on the off chance you found one in good shape anyway.

No it dont, I had the thrush on my other z24 with stock exhaust and it sounded better than any magnaflow or anything I've ever heard on a cavalier.

Yeah, but you probably like the angry bees/farting sound.

glasspacks are for old V8 trucks....
but either way, I would use a $15 hanger like stated, or if you have access to a welder, make something to hold it up, If you HAVE to, use plumpers tape to hold it up..... not hangers???

ftfy.

sorry, but a cherry bomb should never be used as the primary muffler on anything with less than 5L of displacement. it sounds terrible.

you don't have 50 bucks to toss and exhaust shop? maybe you shouldn't be modding your car.
