There is a DC Sports muffler on clearance at my local Pep Boys for $29, but my only gripe is it's a "2.5 inlet . I was thinking of running a 2.25 pipe from the cat back and then just having the shop stretch out the pipe at the very end to 2.5 so the muffler could be welded. Good idea or not?
yeah, that will work just fine. as our cars do not need a 2.5" exhaust all the way back.
Awsome I'm going to snatch that muffler up and make a sound clip. Thanks

I completely disagree. Our cars respond well to 2.5" or larger exhaust and if one were serious about making power 2.25" would rob power potential. Now the OP has the 2200 which will be happy with 2.25" without head work or cams because in stock for they just don't flow well, but the DOHC engines highly enjoy bigger exhaust. If you look at the top 1/4 mile times for N/A engines they all have the larger exhaust. MY Daily driver has 2.5" and the Z has 3" and yes I still have great low end response.
I do however agree that the OP will be fine putting the 2.5" muffler on the smaller pipe.

Actually this will be my first mod to my otherwise stock 04 LSS 5 speed coupe

Sorry I got your profiles mixed up, you have the eco, and if your going to get a cat back bent I recommend 2.5". In your case the stock engine will appreciate the larger exhaust.
Yes its the Ecotec, thanks I eventually want to do the LSJ header swap so I went with the 2.5 from the cat back. When the time comes for the header ill go with a Thunder bolt Cat and a matching DP
